Venom Women Make Big V Finals

For the third successive year the Venom Big V women are through to the division one finals. In a huge achievement by easily the competition's youngest team, the Venom will finish fourth on the ladder and meet Werribee in the semi-finals.

With one round remaining, which will feature the Venom taking on Latrobe City down in Traralgon this Sunday, the Venom can't be moved out of fourth position and will be keen to build some confidence ahead of the finals.

Coach Justin Nelson, though disappointed with losses on the weekend to Hawthorn and Sunbury, was delighted to have a team in the finals again and praised his young squad for reaching a goal they set during pre-season.

"All credit to the players, they have reached their goal for the season, but now the pressure is on to set new goals and chase those during the finals," said Nelson.

"We experimented with a few things on the weekend against teams that will also be in the finals and we came off second best, but that's a part of growing and learning. The upside was again some fantastic individual development within the group."

The Venom's semi-final showdown against Werribee will be at Warrandyte Sports Stadium on Sunday August 2 from 3pm.
