Flames Burn Bright

Norwood Flames (73) defeated West Adelaide Bearcats (54)

West Adelaide are the latest team to be scorched by the still unbeaten Norwood Flames this time to the tune of 19 points.

The Bearcats played a strong first quarter across the court taking the lead from the first shot and staying in front for the entire period. Anna Carbo made an early impact by being in the right place at the right time making the most of her opportunities. She went on to lead her team in points (22), assists (6) and steals (3). Carbo was supported well by role players Kate Shierlaw, Sky Lagenbrink and Trudy Holland.

The Flames struggled to sink a basket missing 4 shots in a row coming back from the break and the Bearcats extended their lead out 8 points - their best margin for the night. However the Flames soon found their shot and and adjusted their structures allowing them to seamlessly take control of the game and turn the tide in their favor.

Norwood are in a class of their own in the CABL in their ability to put four quarters together and close out a game methodically and this match was text book in its execution. A powerful third quarter saw the Flames build a comfy 9 point lead as they began the last quarter.

The Flames kept the intensity up, rotating their bench and keeping their players fresh while West kept their firing guns out on the court for the final period.

The home team built on another 17 points whilst fatigue set in for the Bearcats and their accuracy began to suffer giving them only 7 points for the period.

The Flames continue to show their strength, depth, cohesion and determination and it is a formidable display.
