Jo Hill Shines at Testimonial Year Launch
North Adelaide Rockets (74) defeated Southern Tigers (65)
Rockets star Jo Hill celebrated the launch of her testimonial season by top scoring in her team's win over Southern Tigers at her home court on Saturday night.
A tough and tight first quarter demonstrated both teams' appetite for the win as they traded hoops and duked it out on the boards. Jamie Lee Peris led her team in rebounds with 14 and Jade Barber matched her intensity for the Tigers with 13 of her own. The Rockets went into the first break with a 2 point lead.
The Rockets trio of Hill, Peris and Badenoch harmonised in the second quarter working together to nickle and dime their opponents and chip away at extending their lead to five points at the half time break. The Tigers would not lay down however and scores for the third quarter were level with 21 point each for the quarter.
The final stanza saw the Tigers' composure slip and give up some costly free throws and turnovers under the pressure of the Rockets determined offence. The Rockets' had 35 free throws for the match compared to the Tigers' 13 and they managed 10 steals and 11 points off turnovers compared to 5 and 5 for Southern. In an evenly matched game like this those little things add up and North Adelaide came away with an 11 point win for their tidy effort.
