Tiger Men Survive Tight Tussle With The Flames

Norwood Flames (80) lost to Southern Tigers (82)

In a hostile environment at "The Furnace", we saw Rashad Tucker's Southern Tigers stand up to the pressure and force their way to an 82-80 win over the Norwood Flames.

In a fast paced opening to the game, where both teams looked to push the tempo, Southern's Sam McDaniel (12 points, 9 boards) and Norwood's Matt Lycett (9 points, 4 boards) led the way early for their respective teams.

A breakaway jam from McDaniel opened the floodgates for a Southern onslaught. Matthew Williams (15 points, 7-8FG) and Todd Davies (11 points, 3-6 3ptFG) off the bench, sparked a 30-18 quarter to see Southern up by 10 at the long break.

With some cold shooting by Norwood to start the 2nd half, the Southern lead blew out to 17 points, and the game looked likely to be headed to blow out city. Good substitutions by Norwood coach David Cooper saw Jack Jennings (9 boards) and youngster Brodi Cobbing (11 points, 3 steals) enter the game, and change the game with their high energy play at both ends of the court, their play saw the Flames down by 5 after 3. Game on.

The 4th was an intense and high quality battle. Big shots from Andrew Webber (14 points, 3-5 3ptFG) and Ian O'Boyle (15 points), electrified the vocal home support and saw the Flames in front on the scoreboard with a few minutes to play.

Massive plays from Codey Ellison (16 points, 12 boards, 6 assists) coupled with Norwood's inability to hit a FT down the stretch (only 51.8% for the game) saw Southern come away with a team building win on foreign territory to make it 2 wins in a row to start the year.
