Eagles Hang on Despite a Comeback from the Lions

Forestville were seven point winners over Central Districts, even though the Lions fought back many times during the game.

The Eagles had a strong first quarter, establishing a 12 point lead a quarter time. They maintained the same lead a half time, with both teams scoring 25 points in a better quarter for the Lions. They capitalised on rebounds, with 15 compared to just seven for the Eagles.

The third quarter was low scoring for both teams, with Forestville scoring 11 points to Central Districts’ six. Both teams were had low shooting percentages during the third term, with the Eagles shooting at 31% and the Lions at 17%.

The final quarter picked up in pace a bit more as the Lions outscored the Eagles by 10 points, looking like they were threatening a comeback. Central Districts put pressure on the Eagles, causing errors and they also had five steals. Despite the Lions’ efforts, the Eagles didn’t give up their lead from the first quarter and ended up with the seven point win.

Jess Fergus was excellent for the Eagles, scoring 14 points along with four steals, two rebounds and an assist. Also with 14 points was teammate Meg Kermond. She also had six rebounds, five assists and a steal.

Lion Tamika Dukes was the highest scorer on court with 21 points. She also had eight rebounds, three assists. Demi Skinner scored 16 points and had a game high of 10 rebounds. Both players were instrumental in their side’s comeback attempt.

Another important player for Central Districts was Samantha Saunders. She scored 10 points, eight of which were in the final term, along with three assists, two steals and a rebound.

Dani Angley was the highest scoring Eagle with 17 points, along with eight rebounds, four assists and a steal. She was strong early in the game as Forestville set up their lead and then was important in ensuring the lead remained theirs late in the game.

The seven point win was an important win on the road for the Eagles, leaving them at fourth position on the ladder.
