Top of the Ladder Bearcats Too Tough for the Eagles

After an even first half, West Adelaide pulled away to a 14 point win over the Forestville Eagles at Wayville.

The Eagles had a six point lead at half time but just couldn’t maintain it as West Adelaide started to surge.

In the second half, the Bearcats put the pressure on, causing the Eagles to have more turnovers, whilst also having an impact on the scoreboard. West Adelaide won the third and last quarters by 9 and 11 points respectively.

West Adelaide’s Blake Truslove was instrumental in their victory, using his height and strength to beat his opponents. He scored 24 points and also had four assists, four steals and a game high of 13 rebounds.

Adam Doyle was excellent for the Eagles, scoring a game high of 32 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals. He showed his athleticism once again, playing total game time. Teammate Brad Gerlach also played all game and scored six points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Anthony Spadavecchia was the Bearcats’ second highest scorer with 24 points. He also had six rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Forestville had two players, Charles Newland and Trent Fildes, fouled out within minutes of each other in last quarter. Both had to spend some time on the bench before they were forced off, which was a big loss for the Eagles.

Young Eagle Oliver Megins showed some promising signs with nine points, four rebounds and a steal.

West Adelaide’s Patrick Thomas was on court for a total of 35 minutes, the highest game time of any Bearcat, and scored 11 points and also had four rebounds and three assists.

The 14 point win takes the Bearcats to nine wins and only one loss for the season.
