Season Preview - South Adelaide Women

The gist: After losing four key players from the side that challenged for a finals berth in 2011, it was not surprising to see the Panthers fall to the bottom of the ladder last year. The homecoming of ex-Forestville premiership winner Jamie-Lee Bow and Tiger Teresa Kinross should make this a much more competitive team.

The stat:The Panthers 2012 records of 10th place, two total wins and zero home wins were their worst results in the last eight years.

The star: Teresa Kinross was one of a number of talented players at Southern, but is the only double-digit scorer from 2012 on this Panther roster. It will be interesting to see how she handles being the centre of attention.

The x-factor: Jamie-Lee Bow’s career numbers are not overly imposing, but she did have one big season in 2010 where she averaged 9 ppg, 4.9 rpg and 2.3 apg. With a bigger role at South, can she improve on these numbers?

The glass half-full: The Panthers can breathe optimism in that the last two wooden spooners, Centrals and Eastern, have gone on to make the finals the next season. They have made a couple of decent signings and have retained both Hajnal Nagy (8.8 ppg, 11.1 rpg) and Ieva Nagy (8.8 ppg, 6.5 rpg), who are both young and capable players.

The glass half-empty: Unfortunately for the Panthers, there is no former Halls Medallist to lead their charge up the ladder.

The verdict: The Panthers will not continue the wooden spoon to finals trend, but should be more competitive and successful this time round.

Predicted finish: Outside the five
