2015 Allied Pickford's Premiership player and Eastern Swans leading goal-kicker Nick Kempe, has been selected in the 2016 AFL Queensland Under 18 State team.
Kempe kicked a goal in each of the selection matches, as the Gold Coast SUNS Academy took out the two-match mini series against the Brisbane Lions Academy over the last fortnight. Playing predominately up forward for the SUNS, as he has done most of his career was able to be a damaging figure for his side.
Kempe was one of nineteen players selected from the SUNS list, with 15 coming from the Lions Academy list.
AFL Queensland Regional Manager in Mackay, Jeff Neumann said it is not only fantastic reward for the former Swan but proof that the North Queensland pathway works.
"Nick is a fantastic young man, very talented and this selection is great reward for his hard work and sacrifice over many years," Regional Manager Jeff Neumann said.
"Nick debuted in the AFL Mackay juniors competition in 2009, and has been a stand out player ever since," Neumann added.
"This selection proves that you can play your junior career here and be selected into a State team."
With team selected on Monday evening, no rest at all for Kempe and his fellow Queensland representatives starting training straight away this Wednesday night.
