Eastern Swans captain Alana McNabb has taken out the Anzac Medal in her best on ground performance for the All Stars White teams 12-point victory over the Blue team at Harrup Park on Friday night.
In front of a strong crowd at Harrup Park Country Club, the top 40 female footballers from across the region went head to head in the inaugural Anzac Challenge match. The All Star White side threatened to storm away with a big victory early in the third quarter but a late surge by the All Star Blue side, closed the final margin.
Adriana Smith (Blue) from the Magpies Mackay and Alana McNabb (White) Eastern Swans were named the Captains of their respective sides in the Academy Match.
McNabb led from the front in her best on ground performance, her influence was nullified briefly in the third quarter by young star Siouxie Twidale but once Twidale was moved off McNabb, the star on-baller continued her dominance.
Young-star Teah Mealey was terrific off half-back for the White team as was Lisa Millard and Alisha Matsen.
For the All Stars Blue team Lyneeka Malone was a stand-out on the wing and Allyce Marchetti along with Siouxie Twidale were the defeated sides best.
Selectors will now finalise a squad of 24 players for the upcoming tri-series over the June long weekend.
Women's Academy Coach Jeff Neumann said it is going to be a tough selection process coming up.
"A lot of players stood out, McNabb was fantastic and her influence on the match was second to none," Academy Coach Neumann said.
"Young-Stars Mealey and Twidale showed the exciting talent coming through the ranks.
"I am forecasting a long selection meeting to finalise the make up of the squad but that is a good thing that it isn't going to easy," Neumann added.
