Magpies Mackay will be looking to record back to back victories as they host one of the premiership favourites the Eastern Swans on Saturday afternoon.
The men in black and white were fantastic last week against last year’s premiers but will need to take their game to the next level when they face the well-structured Swans. The Swans are coming off a couple of weeks rest after the Easter long weekend and their round 2 bye, no doubt will be keen to hit the track running.
Swans will be looking to their regular stars in Ivan Walker, Terry Bailey and Andrew Leithhead to be key contributors for the match.
Walker booted 6-majors in the opening round against the Sea Eagles, Leithhead was by far best on ground and Bailey is a key user and all three will be heavily watched by the Magpies.
For Magpies Mackay, Brendan Edwards has been on fire up forward and is the club's go to men inside the forward fifty. However, the Magpies found other targets inside their forward fifty and this is what made them so damaging against last year’s premiers.
Heath Thiele was at his brilliant best, as the former AFL Mackay MJ Miller Medallist dominated around stoppages and set up the Magpies attacking raids from stop plays. Craig Tyson and Captain Jaebyn Drefke were also fantastic and will be key drivers for the Magpies in this Round 3 Allied Pickford's Cup match of the round.
Both sides have a wealth of experience, plethora of youth and may just unleash a few new recruits this week.
This may just be the match that both clubs unleash the much-hyped about recruits in the new Game Development staff, only time will tell.
In the weekends other matches the Whitsunday Sea Eagles will host the North Mackay Saints and premiership favourites Mackay City Hawks will travel to Moranbah in the 2014 Grand-Final replay.
