AFL Victoria's Youth Girls program will reach a record number of Victorian girls with a new northern competition to be launched in 2008. Lalor Stars, Jacana and Whittlesea Junior Football Clubs are amongst the early nominees for the brand new competition which will enjoy the support of the Northern Football League. New teams have also registered in existing competitions and include Berwick (South East) and Braybrook (West), whilst some clubs are looking at following Melbourne University and Narre South's lead by entering two teams for the new season. With 455 girls playing Youth Girls football in 2007, early indications suggest that participation rates could reach 700 by the end of 2008. All clubs have until January 31 to register their interest in the Youth Girls competition.
