Lack of space did not deter organizers from harnessing local support for the games and providing another spectacular venue for the games in Apia. Attempts to downsize the games failed and once again over 2500 competitors lined up for their various sports.

South Pacific Games 1979 - Fiji
August 28th- September 8th
19 countries, 18 sports and a projected 2672 competitors for the sixth SPG in Fiji in 1979 indicated just the beginning of the logistical difficulties that faced organizers for that games and for future competitions. Fiji readied itself for the games in their brand new national stadium and sports complex built at the cost of $3.5m. The all-weather track attracted favorable reviews from international runners like John Walker and Rod Dixon.

South Pacific Games 1975 - Guam
August 1st-10th 1975
Despite doubts over Guam's isolation and last minute political hiccups the fifth SPG in 1975 took place in the US trust territory on time and with all facilities in place. In late 1973 a political impasse was resolved and the go ahead was given for the games by the Governor of Guam. A four year break was established between games in order to mesh a schedule with Commonwealth Games and Olympics commitments. Officials and competitors used to the newly constructed international standard facilities in the past three games were disappointed with some of the venues. Fingers were also pointed at the timing of the games in the middle of the rainy season in Guam

South Pacific Games 1969 - Papua New Guinea
August 13th - 23rd
Papua New Guinea still under Australian administration was the next host for the South Pacific Games. Security issues were high on the agenda for these games. After the high standards set in all facets of the 1963 Noumea games organizers had to be on their game in order to carry off the regional competition. Australia stepped in with money and expertise after early doubts about the viability of the games in PNG. The South Pacific Games Council officials were elected in Noumea after the 1966 games. The President, Treasurer and Secretary were all from PNG in order to give them the best possible chance to organize the games. David Beyer was appointed by the Games Council as a full time executive officer of the Games Trust and took office from the 1st of December, 1967. Beyer, an Australian and former RAAF Air Commodore, had previous experience in amateur sports organization.

South Pacific Games 1966 - New Caledonia
December 8th - 18th 1966
Noumea, New Caledonia underwent a sporting transformation by time the second South Pacific Games came around. The turnaround was two-fold. Backed by the French Government an estimated Aud$14 million was spent on developing world-class sporting stadiums, swimming pool, velodrome, indoor sporting hall and various training facilities. To back up this infrastructure investment the French Government left nothing to chance in ensuring a professionally trained and ready contingent for the games from their two Pacific territories of New Caledonian and French Polynesian. Their competitors gained mainland France experience and coaching. Experts were also brought in to get the rest of their teams in shape for the games. There was not going to be any repeat of the disastrous experiences of SPG 1963 in Suva.
