No.1 Oval in Tamworth is the venue for the North v South game this weekend. The last time we played one of these games was the 20th May 2006 and it was called City v Country with City made up of the Kangaroos, Swans and Gunnedah Bulldogs. The Country side was made up of the Muswellbrook Cats, New England Nomads, Inverell Saints and Narrabri Eagles. The match was played at the same venue and the result was City 21-9-135 defeated Country 18-14-122. This year the teams are North, Nomads, Saints and Eagles v South, Kangaroos, Swans, Cats, with the Bulldogs not nominating any players for the game. So what to make of the game? The North team is a strong team with a star studded forward line that contains Number 1, Weston Whitby, number 2, Dave Richards, Number 4, Dan Hughes, and Number 5, Chris Whitton, on the leading goal kickers list for the year. And then you throw in new Saint Michael Gould and Nomad Hamish Ross and the backline of the South team is going to have its work cut out for it. But before the forward line can win it for them the ball has got to get down to them. The battle in the middle of the ground is going to be the most crucial as both teams have a good mix older and younger players. They are evenly matched with Eagles Duane Shawcross and Mark Barrow for North given the tough jobs on the South's Damien Wendt, Swans, and Mat Hodge of the Kangaroos. The winners out of these 4 players will go a long way to winning the game for their team. The South's forward line also has stars in it but the North's back line looks to be just as star studded as their forward line. All in all this is going to be a great game to watch and I urge everyone to get down to No.1 Oval to watch the game that starts at 2 pm.
Prediction: I think the game will be won in the middle and I feel that the North will have just a slight edge here and be able to feed probably the best forward line up in anyone team in the EETAFL enough ball for them to do the job by 43 points.
