Sharon Kwarula and Wala Gime will represent PNG at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Istanbul , Turkey in March where both will run the 400m event. The pair are currently on scholarship at Iowa Central Junior College in the USA under a programme jointly funded by the Oceania Foundation and Iowa Central.
Both athletes have made a good start to their 2012 competition programme. Kwarula has run a number of 60m hurdle races with a best time of 9.15 seconds last weekend at the University of Northen Iowa.She has also clocked solid times in 300m and 400m events.
Wala Gime has run a variety of events as part of his preparations for the 400m hurdles outdoors later in the year. His recent performances include a time of 1min 25secs for the 600m indoors and 22.47 seconds for 200m. For Gime this will be his second World Indoor Championships as he attended the last event in Doha 2009.
