Mitcham Thunder is committed to safety, participation and empowerment of all children.

We have zero tolerance of child abuse, and all allegations and safety concerns will be treated very seriously and consistently. We are committed to preventing child abuse, and identifying, reducing and removing these risks.

Please be aware that by registering your child with Mitcham Thunder, all players, parents and guardians agree to adhere to the Codes of Conduct set out by Basketball Victoria, The Associations under which we play games (GEBC, MEBA, EDJBA) and Mitcham Thunder

Parents and guardians must acknowledge and accept that their attendance is expected at all times. If necessary, in the event that a parent or guardian is not present and cannot be contacted, they consent that the person in charge (coach/team manager) will seek whatever medical treatment deemed necessary and that the parent will be responsible for all associated costs. If a player has a known medical condition,  it is the parent's or guardian's responsibility to be in attendance at all training sessions and games to ensure that the correct medication or treatment is administered to the player.

As of January 1, 2017, strict new child safety laws have come into force requiring compliance from all not for profit organisations where children are the recipients of services. Stage 1 of Mitcham Thunders compliance is the adoption of a Child Safety Policy. 

A key component to being a child safety compliant club is that we all recognise our responsibility to establish and maintain a child safe club. This is not just the responsibility of the Committee of Management and requires vigilance from all club participants. If you know of, or suspect any form of child abuse, you must report this.
