BMBA COMPETITION SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
20 March 2020
To: All BMBA Members,
Last night the BMBA Committee and representatives from each of our (4) clubs met to discuss the current position and finalise some general questions re the recent basketball activities suspension due to COVID-19.
The following is a summary of that catch up.
As directed by Basketball Victoria all training is suspended until advised otherwise. We know that players will be keen to continue to train and develop their basketball skills so please keep an eye on the Association website and Facebook page for links to training videos over the coming weeks.
Summer 2020 Finals:
A unanimous decision was made to play the remaining finals games only if the COVID-19 suspension is lifted prior to 1 May 2020. Now if the games are to be played, it was agreed that they will be fixtured on a single weekend over the Saturday and Sunday to minimise the impact on the Winter 2020 season.
If the suspension is not lifted by 1 May 2020, the premiership and runners-up titles will be awarded to the teams placed 1st and 2nd on the ladder at the end of the season for all BMBA Competitions. Once the suspension is lifted trophies will be presented to all qualified junior players of these teams and likewise the vouchers to the mens and womens teams. Note: Under 8 players will also still receive their medallions and these will now be given to clubs to distribute to their teams directly, at an appropriate time.
Winter 2020 Registrations:
While some clubs have opened registrations, please note all Clubs have agreed to not enforce player registration at this stage, it is hoped that this may lesson some financial pressure for your family at this time.
Therefore, players are not required to register for the next season until the BMBA has clarification on when the current suspension will be lifted and, in this regard, updates will be provided as quickly as we receive them. All Clubs have been requested however to submit possible team numbers to the BMBA so that a next season competition fixture template can be developed, so as to be ready to move quickly once we receive advice that we are able to recommence our activities.
Although these are extremely uncertain times for us all, please be assured that the BMBA is committed to getting everyone back on to the court as soon as we are able to do so. We intend to also utilise this time for some more thinking time and already we are in discussions about some quite exciting new initiatives for basketball in Bacchus Marsh moving forward.
So, on behalf of your Committee and all (4) BMBA Clubs, please keep yourself safe and may you and your extended families get through this period in good health and note, we will continue to update you as and when we are updated.
