ABBA Notice Board

Good news kids!

Our School Holiday Camps are back and ready to take your game to the next level!
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, our school holiday camps have a different look and feel this term, but nonetheless a great opportunity for our rep and domestic players to work on specific parts of their game in a workshop format. The smaller and shorter sessions will allow players to get more direct feedback and focus on a specific area they have chosen to improve on from our great coaches.
Run by professional coaches, the specialised sessions will be one hour in length and will cover a variety of topics.

For our Rep players, there are 6 topics to choose from, ranging from shooting to decision making to role responsibilities.

For our Domestic players, these sessions will be focusing on developing skills and game play specific to age and ability.
This is a fantastic opportunity for all our Altona basketballers to get back on the court and develop themselves ready for the return of basketball and competition.

The Altona Gators School Holiday Camp will run in the first week of the school holidays.
See the Flyer with Dates & Times of all the Sessions available for Rep & Domestic Players.
The Rep sessions will be held on Monday 29th June, Wednesday 1st and Friday 3rd July.
The Domestic sessions will be held on Tuesday 30th June and Thursday 2nd July.

The sessions are $45 each, with a discount to $40 per session if you sign up for multiple sessions or for families with more than one player wishing to attend.
Registrations will close on June 27, and due to the Covid-19 restrictions, places are limited so don’t miss out!

Please note, these sessions are designed to adhere to Covid-19 restrictions and to the Basketball Victoria Return to Play Policy.
Further information about these requirements will be forwarded to registered players prior to the camp’s commencement. With school holidays just around the corner, don’t wait!

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Attention all Junior and Senior Domestic Clubs and Teams

As you are aware last Friday 13th March we took advice from Basketball Victoria to cancel games scheduled for the coming weekend and possibly longer.    Yesterday we received an update from BV recommending that no games are to be played or training undertaken until April 13th at the earliest.

As a result of this advice, the Altona Bay Basketball Association has taken the decision to abandon the current Junior & Senior Summer Domestic Seasons and aim to resume for the Winter Season from April 17th for Juniors and April 20th for Seniors.    This means the teams that finished 1st & 2nd on the ladder will be declared the Premiers and Runners Up respectively and can if they wish  collect the trophies associated with that by sending an email to Joan O’Shea at admin@altonabasketball.com.au to arrange a time to collect them.

This extended break will allow all players more time to get registered under the new individual player registration and for clubs to get teams confirmed and numbers in by the required date later this month.

A reminder that individual registrations do not activate until the first round of the new season is played.

We are taking the opportunity to run 2 free 1-hour coaches courses on Wednesday 15th April from 6-7 pm and 7.30-8.30pm run by Lanard Copeland.   Further details about this will be forthcoming.

We encourage everyone to use the time off wisely while ensuring they keep well and follow all the relevant advice available.   We will continue to monitor advice from BV and other pertinent groups and should the situation change an update will be provided in due course.

Yours Sincerely

Warren Roache
