CHAD WINGARD has got his State captaincy off to the perfect start in Sydney at the weekend, and he may have increased his prospects of draft selection later this year.
The South Australia captain helped steer his side to a 14.16 (100) to 6.7 (43) 57-point win in round 1 of the AFL National Under-18 Championships.
The Indigenous teenager (pictured), from Murray Bridge in SA, collected 20 possessions in the Croweaters’ impressive display at Blacktown.
The 17-year-old became SA's first Indigenous footballer to captain the State.
Chad plays for Sturt in the SANFL, coming through the Double Blues' junior ranks. He made his senior debut this year at the start of the season. He stands around the old 6ft mark and weighs a relatively light 73kg.
Chad is touted as a first-round selection in November.
Round 2 of the championships begin on Saturday.
