Training & Competition
Training Venues
Glenelg Beach
The Swatch FIVB Beach Volley World Tour 08 Adelaide Australia Open will be held on Glenelg Beach. Training opportunities will be available at this venue at no cost however due to the construction of the venue there will be no guarantees of when courts will be available before the 21st March 2008. This will be a first in basis and there will be no guarantees of equipment other than nets on site.
Please be aware that our best efforts will be made to have the venue set earlier than the 21st March as we are very aware of the unique nature of our event, however we will appreciate your understanding in this matter.
Adelaide City & Mawson Lakes
Volleyball South Australia own and run 2 commercial Beach Volleyball centres in the Adelaide area. On Pirie Street in the City is a 4 court venue and in the northern suburb of Mawson Lakes there is another 3 court venue. Both these venues are available to competitors before the event and booking can be made directly through Quentin Hughes mobile +61 430 145 415
Transport to these venues are not provided by the tournament however public transport runs very close to these venues from Glenelg regularly at a minimal cost.
Schools
Brighton Secondary School
Brighton Secondary School is only a few kilometers from Glenelg Beach and in late 2007 opened a Volleyball and Beach Volleyball Centre of Excellence for their students. Many of South Australia's top Volleyball and Beach Volleyball athletes have been students at this school and the centre shows their commitment to the sport. Brighton is also providing over 50 students and staff to the Swatch FIVB Beach Volley World Tour 08 Adelaide Australia Open as volunteers.
This facility has 4 Beach Volleyball courts available to be used for training to World Tour athletes in the lead up to and post event. Please contact John Tiver at Brighton Secondary School on +61 8 8375 8207 or john.tiver@brightonss.sa.edu.au to make your bookings.
We are currently in negotiations with local Beach Volleyball schools to use their facilities. Further information will be provided in the very near future.
