A few changes have been made this season with the aim of providing further fencing opportunities as an natural extension of club programs. All of the information regarding squads can be found using the menus above, Fencing Information -> Training and Squads -> Training Squads, or by accessing this link.
Fees and Payment
Squad fees in 2011 will be $200 per quarter for twice weekly squads and $120 per quarter for a single session per week. The first quarter is a short quarter for the some squads and consequently the fee has been reduced. All squad fees can be paid on the FV website through the transactions portal.
State Epee Squad - Continuing
The Epee squad has already commenced training in 2011 and is once again being run by the National Epee Coach, Vladimir Sher. This is a combined Australian Fencing Team (AFT)/State squad and brings together fencers from many clubs. It is pleasing to see strong results from Epee squad members, both nationally and locally. Training is 7.00pm-9.00pm Wednesday nights and on Saturday 10.00am onwards. (On payment of Epee Squad fees age eligible squad members can also train with Veterans Squad for free).
Foil Development Squad - Starts 1 February
Last year was a successful first year for our Foil Development Squad. The squad will again be run by Rob Di Pasquale, who has just gained his level three coaching qualification. The squad is recommended for all young fencers who want to expand their fencing experience. Training is 6.30pm-8.30pm Tuesday nights.
Foil Squad - Starts 7 February
The Squad is a new initiative aimed at providing the opportunity for fencers from all clubs to come together, improve their skills and expand their experience. This squad will be coached by Aleksey Danilov, who has been coaching in Western Australia for a number of years. Training is 7.00pm-9.00pm Monday nights.
Sabre Squad - Starts 11 February
The squad will be run by Pieter Leeuwenburgh, a level three sabre coach who has coached sabre National Champions. Victorian sabreurs have often encountered limited opportunities to fence outside their clubs and we Sabre Squad as a valuable opportunity for Victorian sabre fencers to improve their skills and expand their experience. Training is 7.00-9.00pm Friday nights.
Veterans Squad - Starts 3 February
Back in 2011 by popular demand and again coached by Chris Jones, the State Veterans Squad is an all weapon squad aimed at those between 40 and 99 (or thereabouts). Last year, Victorian Veterans dominated National age competitions thanks in no small part to the Veterans Squad...it’s also good fun! The squad encourages everyone to train to their own ability in a social environment. Training is 7:00pm-9:00pm Thursday nights.
AFT Foil Squad - Starts 15 February
The AFT foil squad will be training at State Fencing Centre under the guidance of the National Foil Coach, David Mok. This is the first full term of training for the AFT Squad at Arden Street. The squad is also open to Victorian fencers of a reasonable standard who wish to train with members of the Australian Fencing Team. Training is 7:00pm-9:00pm, Tuesday and Friday nights. (On payment of AFT Foil squad fees, members can also train with the FV Foil Squad and / or - if age eligible - the Veterans Squad for free).
