SUMMARY OF BBA ACTIVITIES

Summer Domestic Season

  • Junior Component
  • Senior Component

The BBA Summer Domestic season is the largest basketball competition in WA’s South West. With approximately 150 teams and in excess of 1200 players spread across 12 age/gender divisions, there are lots of opportunities for players of any experience or calibre to join in the fun.

There are four domestic clubs within the Association which field teams during the domestic season, vying for the supremacy over the 17 week season. These clubs are:

      1.     Aces Basketball Club
      2.     Bulls Basketball Club
      3.     Tornadoes Basketball Club
      4.     Bunbury Cathedral Grammar Basketball Club

Each club has its own management system and hierarchy, operating as independent entities within the BBA, under the Bylaws and Constitution of the Association. Different clubs offer unique services and levels of engagement, training, coaching, and activities. The BBA supports each club and encourages any prospective members to contact them all before selecting which club to join.

Each club also has the opportunity to present delegates to relevant BBA Operating Committees, and as such are integral parts of BBA operations.

Junior Component

The Junior Domestic season brings together teams under the age of 19, divided into 5 age categories for boys and girls. These categories are:

  • U10 boys and girls
  • U12 boys and girls
  • U14 boys and girls
  • U16 boys and girls
  • U19 boys and girls

These categories are separated into A and B divisions where numbers warrant, allowing for better competitive balance throughout the season. Regular season fixtures are 14 weeks long, with 9 being before the Christmas break of December through January. The remaining 5 rounds are played in February before finals continue for 3 additional weeks bringing the total to 17 weeks. The season begins in the first week of school term 4 in October each year, concluding at the end of the following March. See BBA website for live online fixtures

Senior Component

The BBA’s Senior A-Grade competition is widely regarded as the best and most competitive of any in the South West. Friday nights often see fair crowds appear to take in the spectacle of the best senior players in the region battling it out weekly. Most current and former stars of state/national level representative play in this competition.

To accommodate State Basketball League (SBL) commitments, the BBA tweaks the calendar for its senior competition, ensuring that the finals take place before the beginning of the SBL season each March. There is a 20 round regular season, followed by 3 weeks of finals. See BBA website for live online fixtures.
