The North Mackay Saints will face the juggernaut of the Mackay Magpies in the Round 7 AFL Mackay Premier Women's match of the round.
Now labelled mission impossible, all Premier Women's clubs are scratching their heads on how to dismantle the Magpies juggernaut and cause one of the upsets of the season if not history of the competition.
North Mackay will go into this match with nothing to lose, as the Magpies are the hunted and leaders of the pack, at the moment.
Mackay Magpies have numerous stars and key contributors that have dominated the competition and made the Magpies a formiddable force. The leadership of Lisa Millard, relentless pressure of AJ Smith, the forward under pressure at all times style of play has been the key behind the Magpies success.
However, two areas the Saints can focus on that the Magpies haven't had to worry about.
1. Defensive game
2. Testing the decision making under pressure
Across the inaugural season and this year, the Magpies only have 13.5 points kicked against the on average and this is due to their dominance in the midfield. The Mackay Magpies play a very tough, offensive style of play and if the Saints can shuffle a few centre clearances forward, they will impact the scoreboard as the Magpies defenders have rarely been tested and this is one of their weaknesses.
The other is everything has gone the Magpies way, when they win it is usually by a comfortable margin and a majority of the players and the coaching staff haven't been tested under pressure.
North Mackay will be looking to Rahnee Vaccaneo, Miya Scott, Jenna Godfrey, to name a few to lead from the front as some of the key contributors so far this season. Coach Craig Jenkins may even look to implement a negating role on prime mover AJ Smith and, or Lisa Millard.
Mackay.AFLQ.com.au have looked to youth as the keys in this match and which ever sides youth can have the biggest influence will go a long way in securing the four premiership points.
Teah Mealy and Siouxie Twidale are keys for the Magpies and are heavily underrated and if the defender and forward respectively can get their hands on the footy and they usually do, the Magpies are sitting nicely.
For the Saints, Lyneeka Malone, Rahnee Vaccaneo and Nikki Hancock's impact will be vital as will every other player if North Mackay are to pull of the upset of the season. Nothing to lose for the Saints.
