Preliminary-Finals

League Women –Uni Rebels v Palmerston

The Uni Rebels left no doubt in anybody’s mind that they deserve a spot in the Grand Final next Saturday. The Rebels swept aside the underdog Palmerston Power 66-37 to get another shot at the minor premier Tracy Village Jets. The Rebels jumped out to a 17-6 lead after one quarter of play and upped that 11 point lead to a whopping 24 at half time 35-11. The Rebels cruised from that point onward easily fending off the challenges of the Power. Tamara Sheppard (16.2ppg) tore the Power’s defense to shreds on her way to a season high 29 points as the Rebels charged past the opposition for their 13th win of the season. Edith Boundry (5ppg) and Danielle Ponter (8.5ppg) helped out the Rebel cause with 8 points each. Christine Cooper (11.8ppg) from the Power led the side with 11 points. The Rebels are the only team to give the Jets a run this season and the only team to beat them. The last time the Rebels won a Challenge Season GF was back in 2003.

Ladder after Preliminary-final:                  Tracy Village Jets 15-1, Uni Rebels 13-4, Palmerston 8-9, Eagles 6-10, Lightning 4-11 & Ansett 2-13

Grand Final:                                                           Tracy Village Jets v Uni Rebels 6:15pm

League Men – Ansett v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels topped off their late season surge by booking a place in the Grand Final against the Lightning next weekend. The Rebels knocked off Ansett 88-71 behind the quality shooting from a trio of players. Tim Morris, the league’s leading scorer at 30ppg, led the Rebels with a team high 27, followed by Jake Kirby (8.5ppg) with 23 and John King (26.6ppg) with 21. The trio more than accounted for the efforts from an undermanned Blues outfit that only fielded five players for the game. Matthew Van Pelt (19.6ppg) hit a season high 34 for the Blues but after falling behind late in the second quarter they never looked like overtaking the running Rebels who blew the Blues away in the last quarter with a 21-12 run to seal their spot in the GF. Jake Feeney added 16 for the Blues and Matteo Rowse hit 15.

Ladder after Preliminary-final:                 Lightning 10-4, Ansett 10-6, Uni Rebels 10-6, Eagles 10-6, Tracy Village Jets 6-7, Palmerston 4-9 & Razzle 1-13

Grand Final:                                               Lightning v Uni Rebels 7:45pm
