Darwin Airport Resort League Results from Saturday 11 May 2013

League Men – Ansett v Tracy Village Jets

Ansett staged a come-back half way through the last quarter to upset the second placed Tracy Village Jets in a real nail-biter 64-62. The Blues trailed by five points with 4:52 remaining in the game after Jayden Adams hit a two pointer for the Bombers. The Jets had held a ten point lead at various stages of the game, but the Blues always remained in contention. After the basket by Adams the Blues slowly inched their way closer, finally grabbing the lead with 53 seconds left after Daniel Florance hit a two pointer for the go ahead 64-62 lead. The Jets scrambled madly to tie up the game or hit a game winner with a three, but all attempts failed as they dropped only their third game of the season. Florance (22.1ppg) finished with a game high 33 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocked shots. Jake Feeney helped the cause with 8pts and 10 boards. Jet captain Michael MacLean led the way for the Bombers with 20 points and 5 assists. He was supported by Adams and Alex Weetra who both posted double doubles - Weetra had 13pts/11rebs and Adams had 10pts/10rebs.

Uni Rebels v Lightning

The Uni Rebels snuck a little bit closer to the final four when they dispatched the Lightning 63-53 in celebration of Coach/player Alex Hamriding’s 700th league game. The Rebels charged off to a 19-12 first quarter lead and although Lightning did make a run at them mid-way through the third quarter they were always in command. Lightning got within 1 point with about 2:36 left in the third quarter before the Rebels reasserted their control to lead by five heading into the last quarter 45-40. Jake Kirby and Aldrin Moday then hit baskets within a minute of the start of the quarter and Lightning were quickly behind by 9 points and on their way to another loss. Michael Opara led the Rebels with 16pts, Jamie Hamill added 11 and Jermaine Lattimore hauled in 20 rebounds. Tom Godwin had a season and game high 19 for Lightning with Tony Halikos chipping in with 17. The Rebels hit 40% from the field to 34% for Lightning.

Razzle v Palmerston

Palmerston held off a persistant Razzle outfit to grab a 67-56 victory in their match Saturday night at the DBA Stadium. Palmerston struggled to put down Razzle who kept battling back throughout the game behind the efforts of Robert Oliver and Billy-Ray Roberts. Oliver and Roberts led a revival half way through the last quarter that tied up the game at 54 all with 5:20 to play. Unfortunately for Razzle that was as close as they got. Aaron Simpson, Jesse Bell (27.1ppg) and Errol Wilson did what they had to do in order to regain the lead and end the challenge by Razzle. Palmerston (39% from the field) clamped down on defense and Razzle (28% from the field) only scored one more time in the remaining five minutes. Simpson finished with 24pts and 11 rebounds on 52% shooting from the field. Bell had 23. Oliver led the Razzle with 24pts while Roberts had a double double with 11pts and 11rebs.

Ladder:                               Eagles 11-1, Tracy Village Jets 9-3, Ansett 7-1-3, Palmerston 5-1-6, Uni Rebels 4-8, Lightning 2-10 & Razzle 2-9

Next Week 17 May Rd 15:    Ansett v Uni Rebels 6:15pm, Tracy Village Jets v Razzle 7:45pm & Lightning v Eagles 9:15pm. Bye: Palmerston
