Past Commodore Darryl Morrison sadly passed away on September 1st 2018, age 75. Darryl was a true stalwart of QCYC for over 16 years and was Commodore from 2006-2008.
A funeral service will be held in King's Chapel, 25 Myers Street, Geelong on Friday September 7th at 11am with a private cremation to follow.
The Flag Officers, Committee and members of QCYC send their heartfelt thoughts and condolences to Betty and family.
Past Commodore Roger Bennett writes:
"I remember Darryl on a number of levels: he was made a Life Member of Royals last year, he was a Fifty year member of RGYC and a very proud Past Commodore of QCYC.
He was an acknowledged navigator and his knowledge about yachts and their history was second to none. He did dozens of Ocean races, which include 23 or so Melbourne to Devonport/Launceston, Melbourne to Port Fairy, Melbourne to Westernport and I’m not sure how many others including Sydney to Hobarts.
A huge amount was on Ghost from Royals but he also campaigned his own boats, Magic Dragon and Tiercel on which I did a number of Ocean Races and it was his passion for Queenscliff that encouraged me to take on the role of Commodore.
Unfortunately he never got to sail his last boat Andromeda 111, although I’m sure the money he spent on it to keep it in excellent shape kept him going way beyond what his body was telling him.
Last week he even went down to RGYC to vote for the RGYC Club Captain when he really should have been in a hospital bed."
