Week 18 PowerPlayer of the Week

The State Basketball League has released the Week 18 PowerPlayer of the week awards. Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports one Women’s and one Men’s SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

Week Eighteen’s winner is Southlands Boulevarde Willetton Tigers star Ashley Gilmore.  Gilmore led her side (without Lynx player Kate Malpass) to second place on the ladder with an all important 74-64 win over the Rockingham Flames. Gilmore had a near triple-double with 25 points, 18 rebounds and 7 assists and shot 54% from the floor.

Also in strong consideration was Carpet Court Slammers star import Elizabeth Lennox who against the Eagles (52-57 loss) had 10 points and 19 rebounds. Lennox backed this up with 19 points and 20 rebounds in a 59 to 65 loss to the Joondalup City Wolves. 

Others in consideration for the Week 18 award were Ella Buckley (Cougars), Natalie Young (Lightning), Laurianne Higgins (Lightning), Carly Wilson (Eagles), Sandra Faye Muller-Garner (Eagles), Kaye Tucker (Flames), Samantha Norwood (Eastern Suns), Katie Reed (Magic), Shelley Boston (Magic), Emma Pass (Cougars), Brooke Hiddlestone (Redbacks), Deana Smith Hawks) & Meghan D’arcy (Wolves).

In the Men’s competition SKILLED Goldfields Giants star Shamus Ballantyne took out the award for his outstanding weekend on the road, leading his side to a 2-0 record. While keeping them in touch for a first place finish, Ballantyne had 22 points, 9 rebounds & 6 assists in an 88-78 win over the top of the table Lakeside. Ballantyne backed this up with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists in a 108-94 win over the Perry Lakes Hawks.

Adrian Majstrovich (Eastern Suns) was also considered for his 42 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Majstrovich led his side to a crucial win over the Flames in a do or die clash for a playoff spot. Also strong was Edward Morris Jr who led his Senators to a key 1 point win over the Dominos Geraldton Buccaneers in Geraldton. Morris Jr had 34 points and 12 rebounds on 58/% shooting.

Others that were considered for the award were Adam Becis (Cougars), Luke Payne (Lightning), Stephen Weigh (Eagles), John Smith (Slammers), Jacob Reed (Tigers), Chris Christoferssen (Tigers), David Clarskon (Flames), Luke Meyer (Buccs), Jason Faulkner (Lightning), Joseph Harrel Jr (Flames), Tom Remmerswaal (Magic), Douglas McLaughlin-Williams (Cougars), Joel Wagner (Redbacks), Tom Garlepp (Hawks), Daniel Hawkins (Hawks), Vincent James (Slammers), Jeffrey Dowdell (Wolves) & Alonzo Hird (Giants).
