Week 3 PowerPlayer of the Week

The State Basketball League has released the Week 3 PowerPlayer of the week awards. Each week thanks to PowerPlay Sports one Women’s and one Men’s SBL player is awarded the SBL PowerPlayer of the week award. The winner receives a $50 voucher for PowerPlay Sports in Subiaco.

Week Three’s WSBL winner is Go for 2&5 Perth Lynx and Perry Lakes Hawks star Deanna Smith. Smith had an impressive outing in her teams 38 points thumping of the Joondalup City Wolves on Saturday night at Perry Lakes Stadium. Smith came off the bench to score 37 points including 25 points in the first half.  Smith travels to Canberra today for the Australian Opals four day training camp.

Three other WSBL players came under close consideration with Kaye Tucker (Flames) guiding her team to their second straight win with her 24 points, 6 assists and 12 rebounds. Redbacks forward Brook Hiddlestone had two solid games again with and average of 22 points and 14 rebounds in two outings. Eagles import Kelsey Maffin also impressed again with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Others in consideration for the Week 3 PowerPlayer of the week were Alicia Rinaldi (Senators), Meghan D’arcy (Wolves), Gabbi Clayton (Senators), Alex Kerr (Slammers), Emma Pass (Cougars), Kate Fielding (Slammers), Courtney Hargreaves (Tigers) and Ashley Gilmore (Tigers).

The Men’s competition saw a tough selection between two players who posted outstanding numbers in the Country. The PowerPlayer of the Week eventually went to Week 2 winner Luke Meyer who has continued his outstanding form with 36 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 blocks with a shooting average of 73.6%. His Dominos Geraldton Buccaneers convincingly beat the previously undefeated Lakeside Lightning 115-80 to keep their perfect season in-tact.

Also in very close contention was Skilled Goldfields Giants guard Ryan Hulme who posted 36 points (including 8/13 from beyond the arc) and 7 rebounds in his team’s 108-85 win over the Kalamunda Eastern Suns. Veteran Southside Mitsubishi Redbacks guard Ryan Neil continues his solid form with 49 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists in his two games.

Others that were considered for the award were Joel Wagner (Redbacks), Michael Vigor (Redbacks), Jarryd Griffen (Flames), Edward Morris Jr (Senators), Carmie Olowoyo (Senators), Scott Moore (Wolves), Damian Matacz (Wolves), Michael Le Blanc (Buccaneers), Luke Payne (Lightning)Adrian Mastravich (Eastern Suns), Bryce Birch (Cougars), Tom Garlepp (Hawks), John Smith (Slammers), Andrew Bowman (Magic), Wayne Biddle (Tigers), Robert Epps (Tigers) and Stephen Weigh (Eagles).
