RE: SANFL Community Football | Return to Training | Level B | From 18 May | Please Forward to Clubs
Key Resource: https://sanfl.com.au/returntoplay/
Overview
As communicated across the weekend and with further detail this week, SANFL has received State Government approval for a structured return to training in groups of 10 for SANFL and Community Football (three groups of ten on a football oval at any one time), with training to commence under strict protocols from Monday, May 18.
The first phase for football’s return is to plan, implement and communicate to members hygiene protocols and enable the delivery of an education program to all 257 SANFL and community clubs across the State to ensure clubs undertake the necessary preparations for returning to play in a COVID-19 environment.
As part of the Preparation & Education stage, SANFL has developed a Return to Play Resource website which includes key documents (such as a Level B – Return to Training Checklist and Return to Training Protocols Summary) as well as education videos and resources.
The education suite has been developed to provide information and support to our entire football community, and we encourage all players, coaches, umpires and club/league officials to undertake the training, as well as the parents/care givers of players.

- Return to Training – Level B Protocols
- Safe Venue Strategies

There are also a number of templates and resources to assist clubs return to training safely. Each Club must identify a COVIDSafe Officer (recommended to be the Club President) to act as the leader for education and preparation and the key contact point at the Club (further detail below).
SANFL delivered an education webinar to all Community League Presidents/Secretaries, Adelaide Footy League and SANFL Juniors on 12 May.
Key points of clarification following the meeting:
- A football is not required for each member in the training group of ten, provided all hygiene protocols are followed football(s) can be shared within the group of ten.
- Temperature checks: whilst it is recommended, understanding the resource available at Community Clubs it is not a strict requirement to return to training at Level B provided that all protocols are strictly followed.
- Umpires: whilst it is recommended that umpires do not commence training until Level C, if for development or training reasons it is deemed necessary, it is permitted provided the umpires follow all protocols for Level B training as set out in the resources.
