Mike Tindall will head a list of 11 players heading for the Gloucester exit at the end of the season. The former England captain had been linked with a move to France when his current contract at Kingsholm expires this summer, a move that now appears set to go ahead following the confirmation the centre would not be renewing his deal at the club.
Tindall racked up 128 appearances for Gloucester during his seven season stay at the club, establishing himself as one of the side’s ever-present members during an successful time. The experienced 33-year old now looks set to head to the Top 14 in France, with a host of clubs reportedly interested in signing the World Cup winner.
Head coach Bryan Redpath’s departure from the club showed just how much change was already going on behind the scenes ahead of next season. The decision to release Tindall and another 10 first-team players comes as evidence that there will be a big change of personnel at the club this summer.
Brett Deacon, Matias Cortese, Alasdair Strokosch, Rory Lawson and Tom Voyce are other players who will leave Gloucester at the end of the season after the club decided not to offer the group new contracts. Samoan centre Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu is another heading for the exit, signing a deal that sees him heading to the ambitious Japanese league.
Before his departure, Redpath did secure four players to new deals at Gloucester, ensuring there will be some members of this year’s squad still at the club next season. There has already been some new blood signed for next season, with former All Blacks scrum-half Jimmy Cowan and England loose-forward Ben Morgan joining from Scarlets.
Whoever comes in to replace Redpath will be well aware of just how big a job it will be to get Gloucester ready for the new season.
