AGM- OFCFNC Looks Towards 2018
Olinda-Ferny Creek turns it's attention towards next season and the premiership defence(s)with the Annual General Meeting on Monday 13 November.
The AGM will be at the Clubrooms commencing at 7.00pm. Even if you are not standing for Committee/Executive we strongly urge you to come along and get involved.
It's also a great opportunity to secure the 2017 Annual Report which is certain to become a "collectors item".
Presentation Night- "Hots" Goes Back to Back
Marcus Hottes has capped off another dynamic season at Olinda-Ferny Creek winning his second  Michael Scott Medal best player award.
Krista Tomlinson also put her stamp on a stunning A Grade year with victory in the Alma Fowler Medal count. Madi Taylor underlined her continual improvement in this premiership team by finishing runner-up.  Krista of course also won the Jodi Chandler Medal for the best player in the YVMDFNL.
Ironically  James Charge , who won the YVMDFNL award, finished second to Hots. The result was reminiscent of 2011 when another star ruckman,Owen Millwood ,took the League award but was pipped by David Noorda for the local gong.
Meantime Ben Telford's selfless dedication to the  Club was  rewarded with the Paul Wicks Medal for best player in the Twos. Dan Stevens and Symon Hill shared the runner-up medal.
B Grade netball, the Helen Wositzky Medal, was taken home by Jacqui Carr with "Mel Van" finishing  second. C Grade was a close battle between the co-host of the evening, Romy Schauble and Alana Wallis with Romy taking the medal and then declining to interview herself.
Leah Cody's sensational Spring continued with victory from the apparently ageless Michelle Tomlinson in D Grade. Leah was also our best player during the victorious finals campaign.
Checking some other key awards, "Ms Popularity" Molly Rogers won the Greg Zavan Youth Award while the Best Clubman "Pop Swyer" gong went to Trevor Currie.
Trevor's victory was almost by popular acclaim given his commitment to the club at training and on match days plus his amazing efforts behind the camera which are reflected in his photo posts on our Facebook site. Is there another community sports club in Australia with photo coverage this good ?
Congrats to Romy and Sam for hosting another great evening.
For the record- our awards are named after-
MICHAEL SCOTT- eight time Best Player and Premiership Coach.
ALMA FOWLER- Life member who played the major role in the construction of the netball courts.
PAUL WICKS- 20 year commitment to Reserves football as player and manager.
HELEN WOSITZKY- played a major role in building up the netball component of the Club  then took on the Presidency for two years.
POP SWYER- legendary clubman from 50s and 60s. Memorial tree is planted on the north side of oval.
GREG ZAVAN- brother of Lisa Shaw, great player and clubman who passed away at a young age.
Olinda Ferny Creek-a Day of Triumph
In an extraordinary day of triumph underdog Olinda-Ferny Creek has upset Woori Yallock to win the 2017 YVMDFNL Division One footy premiership.
In a stunning performance the Bloods competely outclassed Woori to win by a YVMDFNL record margin of 101 points.
Final scores-
18-17- 125 to 3-6-24
Playing out of a forward pocket Nick Broomhall snagged six goals and was named Man of the Match. Coincidently Broomie was also "best on" during the 2005  Premiership in Division Two. He was still Under 18.
Broomie's father, Dr Geoff, let slip that the 204 games veteran told him before the match he was "going to kick six". Geoff later regretted his skepticism.
Luke Hill, Declan Fitzgerald, Blake Walter, Marcus Hottes and League B and F winner James Charge were also among the best but in such a lop sided contest Brendan Donovan's team didn't have a single player who was beaten on the day.
While this is OFC's first flag in the top division we need to note that the Club played in the Eastern Football League from 1965 to 1985 where it won four Third Division premierships in two decades and twice played in Division Two finals.
However this is without doubt the biggest football win in the history of OFC and also the Olinda and Ferny Creek clubs. That history stretches back over 100 years.
Bookending an extraordinary day the A Grade netballers also enjoyed a runaway win over Woori taking their second flag in three years. Scoreline-
YVMDFNL Div 1 leading goal scorer Peri Stewart was named "player of the match " while "Jodi Chandler Medal" winner Krista Tomlinson  provided us with amazing court coverage in oppressive 30 degree heat. Ash Howard displayed her customary poise and grace on court to ice some long distance goals which kept Woori at arms length. We love you Ash !!
Our "One Day in September" got off to the perfect start early on Saturday moring when Michelle Tomlinson's D Grade girls upset favourite Wandin -
Leah Cody was named best player after shutting down the Wandin offence. At the other end of the court captain Nic Millwood was unstoppable with a match winning 23 goals in blustery and difficult conditions. Casey Seymour was also in the best players.
Later in the day, when celebrations were well underway, Nic pointed  out that husband  Owen " Spider" Millwood has now gone back-to-back losing the 2017 Reserves Grand Final and the 2016 Seniors Grand Final. However Spider, and the whole Reserves team, have every reason to be proud after going down in an absolute nail biter to Wandin-
7-10-52  to  8-6-54
Benny Telford was "best on" for the Bloods but Spider, Symon Hill, Ryan Davis, Brodie Currie , Glen Stevens and Rhys Cottam-Starkey were also prominent. OFC's Reservers have shown extraordinary resilience to win the Flag in 2016 and just get pipped for the 2017 Premiership while continuing to provide a pool of players to the Seniors. Huge effort from Coach Ange and the crew !!
OFC Dominates League Awards

DAVID NOORDA reaches 200 games-

Noords is a dual  winner of the Michael Scott Medal winning the OFC best Player Award in 2011 and 2015.
There is no doubt that David has earned himself a reputation as one of the great defenders in OFC history. He's also won a Second Division Premiership and the only piece of missing silverware is a Divvy One medallion !
