68 & 88 Reunion was a big success.

The Avoca Football Netball Club held a very successfull reunion last Saturday 5th May for the 1968 & 1988 Netball teams.

There was over 40 ladies return to celebrate the 50 year and 30 year anniversary of the very successfull team of those years.

The 1968 teams won all four premierships, while the 1988 teams won three premierships and a Runner Up.more

Jaye Farnsworth to play his 300th game.

The Avoca Football Netball Club congratulates Jaye Farnsworth who will this week play his 300th game of football for the Avoca Bulldogs.

Jaye started playing for Avoca way back in 1999 when he filled in due to lack of numbers and played one Under 16 game as a ten year old.

He commenced playing full time from 2003 and has played every year since.

R.I.P Kevin Matthews

The Avoca Football Netball Club is saddened by the news, of the passing of Kevin Mathews. Affectionately known as “Jerk”.

Kevin was a great supporter over many years. He played in our Junior and Reserves football teams in the 1960’s and 1970’s, and was a club medical trainer along with Harold Bradley, and Lot Barker, in our Premiership years of 1980 and 1981.

2018 Season Launch was a success.

It was a very successful season launch at the Avoca Public Park today.

A brief training run that encompassed both of the football and netball groups training together and was very well received. Training finished off with a netball game between the boys and the girls with the boys handing the girls a lesson.

1968 & 1988 Netball Reunion.

The Avoca Football Netball Club would like to advise that the club will be holding a reunion in season 2018 for two very special years in our netball history.

It is fifty years this season since our 1968 netballers won the premiership in all four grades of that season. Which is a remarkable achievement!

It is also thirty years this season since our 1988 netballers had all four teams in the Gramore

Vale Robert Astbury

The Avoca Football Netball Club offer our condolences to the Family and friends of Robert Astbury on his recent passing on the Gold Coast.

The high flying Rob Astbury was a significant member of our 1971 & 1972 Runner Up teams and was the Lexton Football League leading goalkicker in 1971 kicking 84 goals. He was also a member of the 1962 Reserves Premiership team.

The Avoca Football Netball Club offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Malcolm Scott who passed away yesterday in very sad circumstances.

Scotty was a key member of our 1996 Premiership team and he was also the League Leading Goal-kicker in that season with 96 goals. He played a significant role in our Premiership victory with his selfless play.

TJ playing in V Line Cup.

The Avoca FNC congratulates Taylor (TJ) Kennedy who is playing in the V Line Cup at Under 15 level for the Western Bulldogs.
Taylor played yesterday and kicked a couple of goals playing out fo the centre and was also named amongst the better players.

He will also be playing tomorrow agaisnt the Yarra Ranges at the Ted Somerton Oval in Moe at 12 Noon.

It certainly has been a big season of milestone games.

And this week we have another big milestone and the final one of the season, when Lucy Walkley plays her 350th game for the Bulldogs in the A Grade Preliminary Final against Maryborough Rovers on Sunday.

Coconut Dundee

Here is a blast from the past.

While the Rayner Family are in Palm Cove for the wedding of Taps and Kristyn, they caught up with Coconut Dundee. AKA Leon Bradley who played in our premiership teams in 1980,81.

Leon the Local as he was affectionately known was also a junior coach and a best clubman recipient.

The Avoca Football Netball Club will have a representative jumping into the minus 9 degrees Ice Bath at Campbells Creek tomorrow to support the debilitating disease MND.

On a sad note, the club is saddened by the news of the
passing of Keith Chiswell.
Keith Played for Avoca from 1968 to 1975 and was one of the best back flankers in theleague. His high marking and smooth clearing dashes from the backline were a highlight of Keith’s play, and he was also a great clubman.
He was amongst the best players in the 1971 and 1972 Grand Final teams in which Avoca were Runnemore

Training and tea tomorrow night

Junior Football Training tomorrow night is back at the park followed by a BBQ and jumper presentation. Parents are asked to bring a salad and the cost is a gold coin donation.

Senior netballers and footballers will also be training together at the park for the first time this season and we’ll be having tea after training as well. click more.more

We’ve been given great news! The oval is ready for training to start from next Thursday night for juniors (normal time) and seniors from 6.30pm.

The surface looks fantastic and this is only as a result of the dedication of our President Bill Drummond and Vice-President Rob Rayner who have put in countless hours to make sure that the lush green playing surface is ready for football! click more.more

Hats off to this Legend yesterday.

Scotty Howell showed that age is no barrier when the 46 year old took to the field for the Bulldogs in our practice match against Rupanyup yesterday, and showed glimpses of why he was one of our greatest ever players. While his ageing body wouldn’t allow him to do what he once was capable of, you could still see that he was once a very good player. Click moremore

Being without a home ground for training and playing and having to travel long distance for our practice match isn't ideal, however it proves if we have dedicated volunteers and players we are able to get through this adversity and actually enjoy ourselves at the same time.

As many of you are aware, the playing surface of our football ground is extremely uneven following the 2016 floods and it has been determined that it is unsafe to play competitive games on its current state.

Vale Bob Eastman

Sad to hear of the recent passing of Bob Eastman. Who was a former Senior and Junior Coach, and Senior Grade Best & Fairest player of the Avoca Football Netball Club.

Bob coached Avoca in 1958 and won the club Best & Fairest award in 1959.

He then coached our inaugural Under 15 team in 1964.

Practice Matches.

Two practice matches have now been confirmed for the Bulldogs so make sure you mark them in your diaries.

Saturday March 25th we will travel to Clunes and Saturday 1st of April we welcome Rupanyup to play out our ground in Avoca.

The match against Rupanyup will be for all grades of netball, senior and reserve football and two grades of junior football.

Vale Len Williams

The Avoca FNC is saddened by the passing of our former player in Len Williams. Len played for the club from the mid 1950’s to the mid 1960’s.

Len is the father of Ralph Williams who has been a great contributor to our club in recent times, and is the Grandfather of Brady who has been one of our more promising young players in recent years.

Goldy Started playing football for Avoca in 1960 as a 13 year old junior, and it was obvious that he was a very talented youngster from the beginning, and this was justified when he received the Best Under 20 player award in 1962, 1964 & 1965. click more.more

The Avoca Football Netball Club is saddened to hear of the passing of our 1937 Premiership Player. Tom French.

Tom was born on the 12/8/1919 in Avoca and lived in Bridport street.

He played several seasons for Avoca including in the 1937 Premiership as a 17 year old,before enlisting into army at the age of 20 and served in Tobruk & New Guinea in the 2nd world war.

The Avoca FNC recently introduced the OLD DOGS CLUB as a way of reintroducing past members to the current day club, as some previous members lose touch as life progresses.

There was a lot of traffic through our medical room on Saturday and the club would like to pass our best wishes onto everybody that was on the injury list.
We wish you all a speedy recovery including the young lad from Lexton.

R.I.P Stephen Phillips

Sad to hear of the passing of media personality Stephen Phillips. Stephen was a former player with Avoca in 1971.
During his youth Steve often spent school holidays at Avoca staying with his relations, Bill and Connie Robinson.
By working at The Age and Sun newspapers, Steve established himself as one of Australia’s foremost sports reporters, and then carved an enviable career in themore

The Avoca FNC wish to pass on our condolences to Pat Martin and Family due to the passing of Max Martin on Tuesday 23rd September.

Max was a former Coach of the Avoca FNC in 1960, 61 & 62 and was the Best & Fairest Player in 1960.

Congratulations to Joel Howell for being selected in the final squad to represent the AFL Goldfields team in Far North Queensland. Bad luck to Blake Salmon who missed the cut for final selection.

The team will play against a representative team from AFL Cairns at Cazaly Stadium, Cairns on Sunday 29th June at 2pm, and a second game against a combined team from AFL Townsville and AFL Mackaymore

The Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League announces two venue changes for this weekend’s Round 2 action.

Due to redevelopment works at both the Newstead Recreation Reserve and Natte Yallock Recreation Reserve, the league has moved both the Newstead v Avoca and Natte Bealiba v Carisbrook matches being played on Saturday 26th April.more

From the 1st of April the Avoca Public Park has a 10 metre smoke free exclusion zone around the oval, complex and netball courts during all junior football and netball games and also during training.

Smokers are asked to use the tree area along McIntosh St or Vinoca Rd if they wish to smoke. Please help us adhere to these new rules and make our Park a smoke free place to be!more

The Avoca Football Netball Club is seeking the services of a netball umpire to cover our senior grades (up to 2 games per week).

The Club requires umpires to have a minimum of a C Badge and a current Level 1. Remuneration is negotiable including travel and other expenses.

The Avoca Football Netball Club is saddened by the passing of our esteemed Life Member, Col Evans.

Col has been a great contributor to the Bulldogs for many years and coached the Avoca Reserves team from 1961 to 1965, in which the Reserves played in 4 grand finals in succession and were premiers in 1962. It was a great start to Baz’s 500th game after everyone had made a guard of honour for him to break the banner.
When the game started he marked the ball for a shot at goal just 10 seconds into the game, but unfortunately he was a bit astray with the kick, but he soon made up for it with his next shot.

Round 3 home game transferred to Navarre.

The Avoca Football Netball Club would like to inform our membership that due to the unfortunate delay in the building works to the clubrooms at the Avoca Public Park, our Round 3 game against Navarre will now be played at Navarre on Saturday 4th May.

It is an unfortunate situation that the works have been delayed and as a consequence the club will now miss out on two early home games in the season, however a positive view is that these home games will now be played at home later in the season. click more.more

OXFAM Trailwalker Challenge

Avoca Football Netball Club Secretary Luke Calder is set to take on the OXFAM Trailwalker Challenge on April 19th 2013 in a bid to raise money for OXFAM, a global movement of dedicated people working hard to fight poverty and injustice.

The walk consists of tackling 100km of Australian bush From Jell Park in Wheelers Hill through the Dandenong’s into Warburton within 48 hours in a team of 4 people.

Friday 14th December at the Avoca Public Park at 6pm will be a T20 cricket match for all footballers and friends. Clubrooms are still unavailable, but the Avoca Community Bank Marquee will be in use under the trees, so bring along some picnic chairs and your own drinks. The club will provide meat and the BBQ.

A very ordinary display for the first three quarters allowed Talbot to lead by four goals at three quarter time, but to our boys credit they put in a strong performance in the final term to kick six goals and win the game.

The Avoca Football Netball Club would like to congratulate Colleen Drummond who this week against Carisbrook will play her 300th game for our club.

Colleen first played netball for the club way back in 1982 in the Under 14’s and was lucky enough to play in a premiership in her first season of netball.

Avoca give Tigers a hiding

The Avoca FNC senior football team had a point to prove this week and promptly handed Royal Park a football lesson winning by 209 points. Coach Adrian Pilgrim had a day in front of the big sticks kicking twelve goals for the game.

The AFNC is hosting a NETBALL RULES DISCUSSION NIGHT on Wednesday 18th of July at the Clubrooms.

Leanne Collicoat and Lorraine Adams will be presenting a simple rules discussion session for junior netballers, beginner umpires and parents from 6.30pm until 8pm.

There will be a senior rules discussion following from 8pm until 9.30pm.

All players and club umpires are requested to attend.more

Our trip to Navarre today brought mixed results.

The senior football was given a lesson in the second half and the A Grade netball was a very close game with the girls storming home but could not bridge the gap.

Avoca travelled to Campbells Creek today and came home on the winners list after winning a fiery encounter in the senior game by a good margin.

The A Grade netball girls had a day out shooting 109 goals to 9.

Avoca went down to Natte in the senior football today at Natte Yallock by 15 points.

It was a dirty day for the club with only one win for the day in all grades of football and netball.

The 17's football were the only winners for the day.

Father's v Son's football match to be held in August..

The Father's v Son's football match that was to be held this Sunday will now be held later in the season due to an unforseen clash with the BFL Junior Carnival Training.

The proposed date is in August on the Sunday after the final home game which is also the day of the B & F Vote counts.more

Jaye Farnsworth to play his 200th game for the Bulldogs

The Avoca FNC wish to congratulate Jaye Farnsworth who this week plays his 200th game for the Bulldogs.

Jaye first played for the club as a ten year old back in 1999 to make up the numbers, but commenced playing full time in 2003 and was the winner of the Best Under 14 award in that season.

Vale Damien Field

The Avoca FNC expresses our deepest sympathy to Janece Field and Family on the passing of Damien Field.

Damien was a former player of the Avoca FNC during the 1960’s playing in the Seniors and Reserves. Damien won the Reserves Grade Hans Ebeling Award in 1961 and won a trip to the VFL Grand Final.

Bulldogs into sixth spot on the ladder

Avoca travelled to Harcourt today and had a 29 point win over the Lions with Adrian Pilgrim bagging eight goals.

This win now moves the Senior Football team into sixth place on the Ladder.

The Avoca FNC take this opportunity to thank all of our supporters who contributed to the PINK Day on Saturday and in doing so helped the club to raise a total of $765 to date.

A total of $605 was collected from product sales, donations, silent pink footy & netball sales. Plus $160 was donated on the Pink Funfraiser website.

The Avoca Football Netball Club congratulates Paul Hamilton who will be playing his 200th game for the Bulldogs this week against Talbot.

Hammo first started playing for Avoca back in 1991 and has won numerous awards along the way and also represented the LFL at junior level.

MCDFNL Junior Carnival Fixtures

Please find below the fixtures for this weekends Junior Carnival.

Also attached are the guidelines for this weekend.

Each game will be 2 x 12 minute halves with a 3 minute half time break. Half the ground will be used for each match.more

Tash Howell will be doing Tupperware sales at the clubrooms from 5.30pm tonight.

She will be providing some nibbles and 10% of profits will be donated to the club.

People can put in orders for Tupperware or organise Tupperware parties through Tash.

The Avoca vs Carisbrook fixture that was set down to be played at Carisbrook at 3.45 pm will now be played at Avoca at 10am on Saturday due to a time clash with the Senior game at Lexton.more

Round 2 Fixture change for Netball

Notice of Round 2 fixture change.
This week the Senior & Reserves Football will be played at Lexton as is fixtured.
However, the netball for all grades will be played at Avoca due to the Lexton courts being unplayable.

Canteen facilites will be available at Avoca.

As it is a Lexton home game, Lexton will be manning our gate.more

Avoca FNC travelled to Deledio Reserve today to do battle with Dunolly for the Geoff Calder Memorial Cup which is played for on a win/loss ratio over all grades of football and netball.

The First Social Event of the 2012 season will be the Annual Get Shirty Night which will be held at the Social Clubrooms after the Talbot game on Saturday 5th Maymore

Casserole Tea

There will be a Casserole Tea after senior training on Thursday night. 19/04/12

Tea will be served aproximately 8pm. Team's will be announced for our first match of the season.

The Avoca Netballers will be playing practice matches against Natte Bealiba at Avoca on Sunday in all grades of netball.


MCDFNL Junior Football Fixtures Revised

After revising the affiliations of clubs in each age group, the MCDFNL along with a number of Junior delegates have been able to revise the 2012 Junior fixtures to ensure each side is playing the maximum amount of games throughout the season.


Maldon v Campbells Creek this Saturday.

The Bendigo Bank Maryborough Castlemaine District FNL season kicks off this weekend with an Easter Saturday game between the Maldon FNC and the Campbells Creek FNC, taking place at Woodfull Reserve Maldon this Saturday 7th April. The match will be played to coincide with the Maldon Easter Fair, and as “stand alone” game that is being played 2 weeks prior to the other fixtures kicking off, the match is sure to draw a huge crowd and give MCDFNL supporters a taste of what's to be expected during the 2012 season.


Father's v Son's Football Match (Early Notice)

Due to the outstanding success of last year's Father v Son's football match, the club will be holding another game this season.

This is early notice, so put the 17th June in your diary for the match to take place.

This is the Sunday after the Natte game.

The game will commence at 11am and will be followed by a BBQ Lunch.

Practice Match on Saturday 31st March

This Saturday's practice match against Rovers will be a six quarter Senior/Reserves game.

The game commences at 12.30pm.

Unfortunately, There is no junior football games and also no netball games.


Auskick commences on Thursday April 19th

Auskick will be commencing on Thursday 19th April commencing at 4.15pm to 5.15pm.

Auskick will be held every Thursday evening until the 28th June.

Except for the 24th May. There will be no Auskick on this date.

Auskick registration fee is $55.00 which includes a pack of goodies.

AFNC Christmas Break-Up

The Avoca Football Netball Club will be holding a Christmas Break Up at the Avoca Public Park on Monday 19th December.

Football Training for all players including Juniors if they wish to attend will commence at 6pm.

A BBQ Tea will then follow training at which our netballers and all supporters are most welcome to attend.
