U17's playing U19's
There is confusion at present on the rule of what age a player has to be to play in/up in the under 19’s senior competition.
U19’s is classed as a senior competition, therefore the QRL 13 (d) page 22 of the QRL rule book and as attached is:
The rule is once the player has turned 17 then they can play in the under 19 competition. The player cannot train with a senior club if they are still 16 and not yet turned 17 as they are not covered by insurance. The players has the choice of playing in both competitions once they have turned 17 if they so choose.
Also to squash another rumour going around: if a club does not field an under 17 team, then those players who are 16, not yet 17 must go to another club. Not having a team does not automatically qualify them to play up in 19’s.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries or require further clarification at all with the above rule.
