Our Future Stars
North Tamworth Bears players Zac Faulkner, Ryan Horton, Corey Manicaros, Tye Barry and Hayden Loughrey have gone from strength to strength in the off season and have a score to settle in 2014!
The boys were 'pipped at the post' losing the Uni Shield to Bathurst by a golden point whilst playing for their Farrer First team, however, participated in the superstar Bears U16 team who took away the Minor and Major Premiership title last year.
Since then, all of the boys have been successful in being chosen to participate in the Greater Northern Rugby League Academy. Sweating it out in 40 degree heat the academy runs developmental training sessions that focus on fitness, nutrition, and ground skills.
On top of that, Barry, Manicaros and Loughrey were lucky enough to participate in a Parramatta camp prior to Christmas, with Faulkner and Horton having just returned from a Knights trial on the weekend.
The Academy Squad will undergo one more training session at Jack Woolaston Oval on Feb 2nd before taking on the Hunter Academy in Cessnock on Feb 15th. The following week, Greater Northern will host Northern Rivers and North Coast academies for a weekend of games at Jack Woolaston Oval.
This year all the boys are set to return to Bears as part of the U18 team in an attempt to bring home the premiership, as well as fight for their Uni Shield title that was ripped away from them last year! Both Faulkner and Horton are set to travel back to Newcastle in October to trial for the Knights SG Ball team once they finish school this year.
