CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR 2 GRAND FINAL WINNING TEAMS
The Under 8’s kicked off the day in style with a 26-0 victory over Harbord. This champion little team never really gave their opposition a chance. Paul had them tackling like demons and it is great to see the excitement on the boys faces when the final bell rang.
We then headed to a very sunny Brookvale Oval for the Under 12 Grand Final again against Harbord however the omen did not continue and while they boys were brave to the end and did not give up they were beaten by a very good side. Boys, there is no shame in being beaten when you give your all and you did that on Saturday, use it as motivation to come back bigger and better next year. Well done on a great season to Tim and the Boys.
It is fair to say that there was a fair degree of nervousness from Under 15s trainer and Club Director Brad Martin when he rocked up for the game against Manly Cove. Apparently he was a bit like Santa checking his list twice to make sure everything was ready. Fortunately his nerves did not rub off on the team who were like a bunch of 6 yr olds as they ran into the home change room for the first time. A few wise words from Coach Luke Grant settled them down and slowly their footy heads emerged.
Despite an early try against them they raced to a 24-6 lead at half time. The second half saw a determined Manly Cove return to the field and despite a few anxious moments the boys ended up running out 38-24 winners. Congratulations to all involved but especially Luke, Brad, Matt, Sue and Phil and of course the Belrose spirit displayed by the boys.
On behalf of the Club and the teams I would like to thank all the supporters who went down to cheer on the boys. We were big on numbers and big on noise and it certainly lifted the boys it what was a great show of club spirit. I had a number of rival clubs comment on the support we had and while we were certainly noisy I was proud of the sportsmanship we displayed.
We now move on to our 2 remaining senior teams with A Grade playing in the Grand Final at North Sydney Oval 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon. A return bus has been arranged for all players and supporters so let’s get another big crowd out there. Cost for the bus is $10 per head and it will leave the Belrose Hotel at 2.00pm.
Don’t forget that Sydney Shield are playing this Wednesday night 7.00pm V Asquith then again on Saturday. If we win both games we will finish Minor Premiers, an awesome achievement by Morts, Eric and the boys. So please come and support the boys and their charge to the semis.
