Balmain Referees NRL Milestone

Tonight at 1300 Smiles Stadium in Round 26 of the 2016 NRL Premiership, Balmain Referee Matt Cecchin reached a milestone that very few referees ever achieve and further cemented his place in Balmain and NSWRLRA fokelore.

In Round 26, Matt refereed his 250th First Grade Game, a feat achieved by only a select few in more than 100 years.

What makes Matt's achievement even more outstanding is the fact that in the middle of those 250 First Grade games, Matt also ran 169 First Grade Touchlines, including the 2005 NRL Grand Final which was famously won by the Wests Tigers.

This means that at the conclusion of Round 26, Matt Cecchin has been an on-field official in 419 First Grade games, with many many more to come. By any benchmark, Matt has enjoyed an absolutely outstanding career to date and surey has many more years to come.

As Matt said upon receiving his celebratory match shirt from former NRL COO & former First Grade Referee Graham Annersley (see attached) "I'm very honoured and lucky to have officiated this many games. Many a better referee have refereed less".

On behalf of all Balmain Referees, congratulations Matt of this outstanding achievement & all the very best for the upcoming Finals Series
