The Club is saddened to hear news of the passing of Lew Owens on 1st January 2018 aged 90.
Lew played for Chelsea in the 1940’s and 50’s and was an integral member of the 1955 Chelsea FC Senior Premiership side..
He was father of Chelsea FC players Mal & Graham.
Lew was Chairman of Selectors when Mal coached the seniors in 1977 & 78.
Folklore has it, according to some sources, that Bobby Skilton 3 time Brownlow Medallist said as a young up-coming player he modelled his left & right kicking style on Lew Owens when Lew played for Port Melbourne FC (52 games) in the early 50’s.
