Yarra Jets gala day - what a day!

Wow, what a start to the season!

The rain stayed away – in fact sunscreen was needed – and we were hosted by a friendly club who played in the spirit of good humour and a bit of give and take.

The coaches scrambled together teams at short notice. It’s fair to say there were surprises all round. Boys playing in the u11 girls match (one of them for the opposition), girls (well one girl) playing with the boys u10s. A six year-old helping out the u11s and a boy who wasn’t planning to play at all suddenly deciding to join in. The u8 boys were helped out by one of the Yarra Jets players who netted several goals on our behalf and the two youngest u9 girls decided they wanted to play in goal.

U14s had to borrow a couple of u12s and younger u16s. And u16s had so many unexpected players turn up we ended up with 9 subs. I don’t think anyone there will forget Danie shouting only 10 minutes on “everybody off except Thea” and the entire team except one defender and the goalie swapped over!

At least one Footy dad was persuaded that maybe soccer was an OK game after all (seeing his son score a goal may have helped)

An unexpected, sometimes strange and thoroughly wonderful lead in to the 2018 season.

Go Kensington!

Don’t Stand By. Stand Up! aims to support the football community in responding and intervening safely when race-based discrimination is seen or heard. Importantly, the campaign will focus on racism in all its forms, from subtle exclusion to overt verbal abuse on and off the field.

FFV is committed to ensure that you have the tools to be informed and take action as required.
