REWIND IN BLACK AND WHITE

REWIND IN BLACK AND WHITE

HISTORY ARCHIVES

1985 was the year in which our club playing as Brunswick Juventus competed in the National Soccer League the top flight competition in the country. Today we know this league as the A league. The NSL as it was known was separated into two divisions, Northern and Southern. Our boys defeated Preston Mackedonia (now playing as Preston Lions) in the southern division final to advance into the Grand Final against Northern division winners Sydney City.

It was a final played over two legs (home and away) which saw some big names of Australian football history play in this game. Ex Socceroo coaches, Eddie Thomson and Frank Farina, let’s not forget John Kosmina and David Mitchell for Sydney City and a host of other big names. Playing for the Brunswick Juventus side were ex Socceroos Mehmet Durakovic, Mike Petersen and Paul Wade just to mention a few.

After the two legs the boys in black and white prevailed. Have a look at the road to the 1985 championship.
