EPSOM GIVE CANNONS THE BLUES
A return game to the Huntly Reserve in Bendigo saw a top of the table clash between the Epsom Blues and Kyneton Cannons, in what was deemed to be the clash of the round.
The match did not disappoint.
The Cannons, after a week off from training, looked sluggish as the Epsom Blues made the most of their opportunites in the first half. A well taken goal by the Cannons captain for the day, Pat Murray, kept the Cannons in the hunt. But, a more physical and stronger looking Blues, took a well-deserved lead going into the halftime break. 3-1 Epsom.
The second half took a different turn, with the Cannons returning to their usual form and swagger. A great long range goal by Hopkins followed by another tap in by Murray saw the Cannons fight their way back to 4-3 in favour of the Bues with only 5 minutes left. It looked like the Cannons boys could scratch a result away from home.
A great goal mouth scramble in the Cannons penalty area was a testament to the "never say die" attitude from the boys in Maroon. With Rocco the rock putting his body on the line to stop shot after shot from the Epsom team, and the ball finally being cleared by the Cannons defence.
Shortly afterwards the Epsom Blues put the game beyond the Cannons reach with another goal in the dying inutes.
Overall the Cannons did a fine job, with the usual suspects playing to a high standard. Jasper Selby, Isacc Waterson, Oliver May, Cael Kelly and Aidan Willis all putting in a good shift.
With the long weekend break from games this weekend, the Cannons have time to recuperate before they play their next game against Spring Gully Red Power. Can they get back to their winning ways? All will be revealed in the weeks to come.
