Vastly experienced Jason Coombes has been appointed as First Grade coach of the Tuncurry Forster Tigers for next year’s Football Mid North Coast Premier League season.
Coombes has been coaching football for almost 25 years, having great success with NPL giants Broadmeadow Magic FC and Wallsend FC in the former Northern NSW State League, followed by a stint in charge at Lake Macquarie City FC in the former New FM League, and then a return to State League with Maitland FC. Coombes has also coached at Cooks Hill FC in the Interdistrict League in Newcastle, winning consecutive premierships as they began their rise towards the NPL. The last two seasons have been spent in charge of TFFC’s reserve grade side, taking them to consecutive finals series. Coombes has also completed the FFA Advanced C Licence coaching course.
Stepping in to fill Coombes’ shoes as Reserve Grade coach is new TFFC President Kevin Chapman. Chapman is continuing in his role as the Club’s goalkeeping coach, but is excited at the prospect of taking the reins of the Reserves. “We’ve a lot of great young players coming through, and it’s a great opportunity to mentor them and help them develop as players” Chapman said. Coombes and Chapman will be assisted by specialist striker coach and former NSL player Al Groth, along with Ron Schumann, Tim Barber and Matt Camilleri. Jonathon Newman also joins the coaching group as an assistant after stepping down from the First Grade position.
The Tigers will look to start their pre-season campaign on Tuesday 13/02/2018, with Coombes promising to freshen things up with a new approach as the Tigers aim high in 2018.
