The AFL Masters Carnival in Airlie Beach over the Easter weekend was another fantastic event on our AFL Masters calendar. Many games of football, played in the spirit of Masters and a rare occasion, no major injuries. Players travelled from Melbourne, Cairns, Charters Towers, Townsville and the greater Airlie Beach/Whitsundays for the carnival. Four teams were created representing sponsors such as Shirtfronters, Sausage Kings, Pirates and Desperados. In the end a grand final played between Shirtfronters and Sausage Kings, with Shirtfronters taking the honours on the day. Well done to all that were involved in particular the Airlie Beach Masters, Darren Lloyd, Ken Deakes, Clint Taylor and everyone behind the scenes.
Big thank you to Nev Growden and Dean Anderson as they performed the role as umpire for the entire Airlie Carnival and they both did a great job. If you would like to support as an umpire please consider completing the course online as per link and for the Townsville members’ the club will reimburse the fee of $10 to support anyone interested in development in the umpire sphere.
