Brothers and Sisters of the Sherrin,
I hope all of you had a great weekend and your footy team got up. There were a couple of surprises in the results from the weekend but that is what makes our game so great. On the weekend we had a special carnival in Charters Towers playing for the Gold City Cup and I guess a short report is in order and I am under strict instructions to acknowledge the local guys first win in the carnival history with a 3 point advantage over the Sharks. Well done guys I do hope this leads onto bigger and better things for your club. Congratulations to the Baldies for taking out the day, they seem to have a mortgage on this event. I have attached a photo of Jay James with the Mayor of Charters Towers Mayor Liz Schmidt just after the presentation. I did hear the Mayor say Jay was a friendly young fellow but she clearly doesn’t know him as well as we do. Just kidding. On that note I would like to thank the Mayor for taking time out of her busy schedule to assist us with the day. It is appreciated and should be acknowledged along with the great support from Allan Georgee and his team who without it would not be possible. To all the players and their families thank you for your efforts I do hope you had a great time and we look forward to next year. To the local management team I know what efforts are required to make these things happen and would like to pass our special thanks onto you. We were fortunate to have both the President and Vice President of AFLMQ with us for 2 reasons. The first to attend the carnival and they were very impressed, I even overheard them discussing the merits of bringing a side up from Brisbane next year so watch this space. To Steve and Paul thank you really appreciate you leaving your families for the weekend and joining in with the North Queensland Masters Family and see what fun they extract from the great game of ours.
The second item Steve and Paul where here for was to assess our facilities for future events, so it was a bit of a hectic drive around the grounds on Saturday Morning and Sunday, covering items from our AFL infrastructure, to accommodation types and volumes to entertainment scope before we had to put them onto a plane late Sunday. They have expressed their thanks which I would like to pass on here, and they acknowledged the growth of the region and what it would offer for any future events. Jack drove all the way from Airlie to assist with a meeting on Sunday morning, thanks for your efforts and support Jack, you presents and presentation will go a long way to supporting our cause. I have attached a photo of Steve and Paul inspecting the change room set up at TIS with every element looked at.
Training is back on Wednesday Night at 6 and next Sunday at 10 so make sure you get down. We are looking at a carnival at Maggie so watch for details on that one and of course Geelong is not far away now. Andy is back this Sunday so back to normal, let’s put so effort in to support each other. If anyone has any suggestions for activities please let us know. Just one last thank you to all our guys and especially those that assisted with the day Chris, Gibbo, Nev plus all the girls with the raffles which we raise $315 for the local Juniors well done girls thank you.
Thanks about it for now stay well and enjoying life, I will catch you all shortly.
