Brothers and Sisters of the Sherrin,
I hope all are well and enjoying life. What a weekend and I don’t think it could get much better. A couple of challenging items Sunday morning at The All Finazn Group Queensland Country Championships but all where over come with a true Masters sprit from all competing teams. I have to thank all visiting teams and those that put in a super human effort to attend with considerable traveling times. To the Cairns, Whitsunday and Charters Towers ladies and gentlemen well done also to Peachy and Gibbo what a top effort and the likes of Karl who came back from overseas just shows the commitment to our great brand. To all our volunteers thank you especially the ladies and Jonny on the gate all day. To our time keeper Geoff and score board men Jim and Jack thanks guys. The local umpires did a great job all day and to their new recruits well done. Townsville Masters support our umpires as our small contribution to the local league. The footy was played in great spirit and no injuries save Tony’s smack to the gob. But in true Townsville style he played through it and ended up one of our best for the day. One point we should all take home is the approach of sharing all honours which I believe was well received. To be specific the intent was to make sure all our visitor groups had an equal prise pool as the host club. With the distances we travel to games usually the home side is the strongest and that we should reward effort and our visitors go home with a sense of achievement we reinforce our core values challenge more to join and we continue to grow our great brand. Great work and look forward to the next adventure. This was the first time we had our full size mascot and can’t help to think how hot it must have been in that suit. Big turnout, plenty of music from over the road and then our own one man band who was playing all the right songs from where I was standing and then Nev’s song to Anne brought a tear to every ones eye. (Nothing to do with the song it was the singing causing the grief).
Now to the next carnival where we take to the Road and out to Richmond. 26th May 2018. AFLQ are putting on training camps leading up to that weekend and a junior game on Saturday Morning. Then we play the Charters Towers guys followed by dinner, drinks and meet the locals . It is important we make an effort to get out there guys to support the little ones and take the brand further than anyone else has. All details are on both our web page and the Towers one so please get back to me and let me know if you can go. Do you need a lift we will organise seats or car-pooling to help out. This is more about others than us guys and your chance to pay back for all the support you have received over the years. Think of it as your community service. But it will be Masters for fun, family and friendship.
Now I am informed Captain Jay James is having a birthday party down at the Airlie this Saturday after 3 at the Anchor Bar. All are welcome and please if you can get down there drop in and wish him all the best for his 50th. He needs it as I don’t think he will make another 50 by the looks of it. Jay is going out to Richmond and a true champion.
Training is called off for this Sunday only so you can do the right thing on Mother’s day but all back to normal the following Sunday 20th May as we gear up for Richmond. Please do some personal training as a little bit every day will get the best results. We are arranging for a speaker on Men’s Health to come down in a few weeks to have a chat after training so watch this space for more information. Do you need injury cover, have any finical concerns or looking at this then give Danny a call and he can identify some options for you to consider.
We have put our final bid submission for next years carnival into the National body for consideration. We are up against some strong competition but both the State and National Bodies have been very supportive and generous with their time and suggestions and whatever comes out we have been given a fair shot. I feel I am talking to the church choir but the importance of getting regular carnivals to our region cannot be under stated as it does drive recruitment to a much higher level and the long term sustainability of our game. It also helps with the other levels of the game and as we have been stating for some time this if footy for life. We are looking for additional committee members especially if you have some scope within the ADF, Tourism or allied industry in case we do get up.
Well that is it for now Legends keep living the dream and will talk soon.
