MASTERS MATTERS 11/04/2018
Brothers and Sisters of the Sherrin,
I hope this note finds you all well and enjoying life. What a weekend we just had with 5 new guys turning up and 4 old boys we have not seen in a while. This is great for our brand as we continue to grow with all thanks to you. You encourage players to come down, make them welcome and support through the process. We have a big year in front of us and we need to keep looking at ways to freshen up the program to make it interesting and enjoyable. For me it is great honour to be allowed to take part thank you.
Townsville Masters confirmed on Sunday to continue support for our umpires with a cash donation towards their training programs. It is important we support those who put in so much effort without the game could not go ahead.
Another special item came up in relation to a request to support the PNG Tribal Foundation with equipment request to assist with a activity program. It appears in PNG unemployment can be as high as 90% and with that comes the usual anti-social issues most would be familiar with. There is a large problem with violence towards woman within this issue and the Foundation with cooperation of the AFLQ are looking at engaging these groups into a AFL competition but are severely under resourced and looking for the things we take for granted such are footy jumpers, foot balls and the like. Townsville Masters will donate a set of jumpers and 6 of our training footballs and a couple of drink bottles to kick the program off. The Maggie Island Magpies have come on board and will donate a set of junior jumpers. I guess I am reaching out to see if any other clubs are in a position to perhaps kick in an old set of jumpers, footies, old boots anything of use for the program. Let me know and will assist with the coordination. Your support will not only help those that really need it but also promote this great game of ours.
Queensland Country Championship: May the 6th at Neil French Oval. Do you want to play? No problem just make sure you are registered. Are you from out of town? No problem room will be made for you. Do you need playing gear? No problem we have shorts and socks just bring your cash or credit card. We are taking names now so if you do want to join in drop a line back and take care of the process from there. If you can come up from Brisbane or Perth you will be looked after just get here. After the footy there will be food, drinks and entertainment. Raffles by the score and plenty of stories so no shortage of fun.
Training is on at Neil French Oval next Sunday at 10 so try and get down a bit earlier to change and get warmed up we need to get some run in those legs. If you have any suggestions for training alternatives bring them with you. If you can’t train come down and enjoy the hospitality after with a bite to eat and a couple of drinks on Sunday afternoon.
Guys flu season is coming up have you thought about getting a jab they tell me it is real important this year due to a new strain. I know last years did not work too well from firsthand experience but they say it will be better this year. Give it some consideration especially the older guys (yep just like me) we really can’t afford to get knocked off our feet and then we use a water bottle with 20 other guys and guess what happens from there.
Burchie sent out a note on accommodation for Coffs if you did not get it let me know and will send it on. If you are looking at going you need to have booked by now as it will be school holiday time and these places tend to fill up.
Guys if you haven’t registered yet can you get onto that as soon as possible please and fix up payment which can be done at training with a credit card. We need you all in the system and quickly. Thanks in advance for that one.
Check out the great work from Jack Growden
