Brothers and Sisters of the Sherrin,
I hope all is well in your part of the world. We have a couple of important items to cover so I will get straight in to it.
Training: Due to current weather conditions and the forecast suggesting this is unlikely to improve training has been called off for tomorrow the 25th February. We see the risk of injury and field damage being too high to chance. Now by no means should this be seen as an excuse to have a day off. With the cooler conditions the suggestion is to get up early and get out on the road for a quick 5K run, when you get back a few stretches, a couple of hundred push ups, crunches and squats then some stretches to cool down before you cook breakfast for that favourite person in your life.
JLT Game in Townsville: The Suns Vs Geelong is on next weekend Sunday the 4th March at Riverway Stadium. We have a big game back in Townsville so to ensure they keep coming back we need every one to get out and support the event. I cannot stress how important it is to get there, to show to our southern brothers these big games mean something to us, our kids and the community. Entry is cheap with general admission only $20 for adults, kids are $5, Grandstand $30 and if you want to attend the function upstairs $180 with meal and 5 hour drink package. Tickets at ticket shop or if you want to go upstairs get back to me.
Reflections: A bit of a sad anniversary or 2 has just passed being 4 years since we lost the Wolfman and 3 years since Mitch left us both life members of MastersQ. Both great guys and I had the privilege to play footy with both as a young bloke and not so young. True ambassador’s for the game and gave their heart and soul over many years.
Cairns: What a great weekend of footy and friendship in Cairns last weekend and I don’t know how they keep making it better every year but they do. The Holloway ground was a perfect location great turn up and all played in the right sprit. Hats off to the Cairn guys who came well prepared but just a little too young and fast for our guys. To our guys well done you push hard and never gave in with Masters the winner at the end of the day. Our best where Glenn, Nathan and Donnas. Great to catch up with Jatzy and was looking remarkable. A bit of a presentation at the end of the game and not too many dry eyes. Well done to Nev and Anne for your support to Jatzy’s family with both receiving special monogramed club shirts from the legend himself Jatzy. The one thing that struck me as super special was the number of old boys who turned up just to support the event. A couple of old war stories a few drinks it just doesn’t get any better and they were all looking good. Thank you to the Cairns guys it is very much appreciated. A special thanks to the Whitsunday and Towers guys who put in a big effort to get there and back it is noted.
Whitsunday Tropical Cup: This is our next big Carnival which is on at the end of March at Airlie. We need to start organising numbers so if you can let me know if you are going I can start a list for Andy and the team. This is a must weekend in your Masters Calendar with its special format, location and great after game programs.
Catch Up: I am trying to catch up with some of our retired players just to see if they are ok and this week I spoke to the King himself Jack Lumby. Going real well and enjoying life and as he puts it in a great space. Planning on his last Bailie 9’s in June and looking forward to his next adventure in life. Jack Lumby Life Member Masters Q, Whitsunday Masters and organiser of anything special on the Whitsunday’s you just don’t get to meet men like him every day. Thanks for everything Jack and keep living the dream.
Can you find a recruit: Can you identify a new player or administrator for Masters??? It might be a female but must be over 35 but all need to be thinking of can I find just one person to get interested in this great game of ours. Remember our legacy is what we leave behind so let’s leave masters stronger than how we found it and more players will do it.
Well legends you can tell I have not been rushed this time but keep looking after yourself and each other while living the dream.
Kind Regards
Mozza
