The Etobicoke Kangaroos have kicked off their 2015 OAFL Premiership campaign with a solid turn out for their first official run on Sunday the 1st of March, at Lakeshore Collegiate Dome in Etobicoke, Toronto. The Roo's are determined to turn around the misfortunes of their last 2 seasons, which has seen them bow out of finals contention in 2013 and knocked out of the first round of the 2014 OAFL finals campaign.
After a number of dominant years on the feild, which saw the club bring home its first OAFL Premiership in 2008 and go back to back in 2011/12, the club has undergone a phase of rebuilding and are looking to ensure success heading into 2015 and onwards.
"After back to back successes in 2011/12, we experienced a high turnover of players with our established and well respected Canadian Stalwarts retiring and our core Australian players going home." said Club Vice President, Brett Connell, .
"We as a club have identified a few key 'must haves' to be successful in 2015. Re-establishing an Executive Committee that meets regularly was imperative and a continual approach to always develop our Canadian prospects and Women's team is key."
Training kicked off indoors on Sunday morning at Lakeshore Collegiate, at Kipling and Birmingham. The club has acquired dome space each weekend until April 18th and participation is $10 a session, or a full pre-season pass for $60.
"Numbers at this time of year, with temperatures still in the negatives, are hard to come by so it's great to be sharing our time and space with the Toronto Eagles Australian Football Club. They have been an OAFL stronghouse and Rival in the West for a number of years, but bring a lot of Canadian experience which is great for getting the most out of our time indoors."
