So more good news… we have the opportunity to keep pressing for a spot in the finals for the first time in a decade.
The journey continues tomorrow at Central Reserve when we head out to take on none other than…Glen Waverley, in what is shaping as a virtual elimination final.
Glen Waverley took on the other contender for fourth place, Kilsyth last week and won, which meant Kilsyth now can’t make the finals. So we have Glen Waverley this week and Kilsyth next week, while Glen Waverly take on second-placed Forest Hill next week. So there might still be plenty of twists and turns before the top four is finalised.
But back to last week, and a big thanks to all the Ladies of Surrey Park that attended the Ladies lunch last Saturday. A fantastic afternoon turned into a great night for many and again demonstrated the direction our club is headed across our community. We had record 100 ladies sit down for lunch and keynote speaker Bridget Barker was fantastic and there were more than a few tears shed as she told her emotional story.
On field, the 19’s kicked off the day well for the club with a good win over Eastern Lions, Liam Hauser chipped in with three goals and Noah Bennett was named our best.
The Two’s worked hard all day but were pipped by the Lions, Jimmy Wright was our best and won the Aqualink Café Voucher while Ryan Higgins was also amongst our best and Pat Hatch continued his great form and seemed to mark everything that came his way.
The Ones had a tight tussle all day – the Eastern Lions have matched up very well against us in recent times and this was no exception. Graeme Johns and Mick Paolini both kicked two and Paul Collopy, up from the 19’s and in only his second senior game showed a cool head to ice the game in the last with a nice goal. The backline again stood up well with Bede Briscombe was named our best and took the Surrey Barbers Voucher , whilst Riley Tempany and Zach Tempany also stood tall. The final score read Surrey Park 5.11.41 defeated Eastern Lions 4.7.31.
So this week, in a quirk in the draw the 19’s play at home against Kilsyth, with a spot in the under 19 finals series confirmed with a win, while the Senior and Reserve sides are away at Glen Waverley...
The seniors welcome back Richard Scott and Ryan Kennedy into the side this week…’Scotty’ decided it was a good idea to take off on holiday for a few weeks so has had to earn his spot back via the twos, while ‘Kenner’s’ returns after a week off with illness.
We are calling on as many supporters as possible to head out to Central Reserve (corner Springvale and Waverley Roads) where we take on Glen Waverley, with the winner taking a four point buffer into the final round. Your support has been sensational all year, let’s get there and make some noise Panther Fans!!
