The seniors got their first win of the season and their first win in second division since 2013 last week against Wantirna South in a nail biting finish. Great to see Josh Eyres and Jake Saltum who have both come through the U19’s make their senior debut alongside another debutante in Taylor Preece who has arrived this year at the club from University Blues (VAFA) and local footy in Sydney. The Reserves and U19’s both lost despite having some good patches during their games. This week the senior sides have a bye due to the EFL Interleague game. Plenty of other footy last week with the Women’s side starting well against Chirnside Park kicking 3 goals in the first half, including 2 to new player Emily Ballard, before falling away while the Vets and U17C teams played at the same time at Kings Park. The Vets were grateful to play on the top oval with only 16 players turning up against Wantirna South who only had 17 players, playing 16 a side the Vets struggled to score while on the main ground the 17’s had a good win against South Croydon. In other junior games the highlight was probably Byron McDonald kicking 6 goals in the U15’s big win against Chirnside Park and the U12 girls holding on to win by a point in a low scoring game against Bayswater. Last Friday night only the Division 6 Netball girls were able to record a win with Emily Stewart shooting 21 goals. Check out below for all the results from last weekend as well as the fixtures for this weekend. This Saturday there is footy at Kings Park with the seniors training before the Women’s side play Bayswater starting at 12pm, get down and support our newest team, there will be food and bar available. Dates to put in the diary coming up include the $5k draw on Sunday the 11th June, this is the Queen’s Birthday long weekend with the seniors playing on the Saturday, tickets available for $110 per double. The THF Lunch will be on the 17th June when we host Waverley Blues, Tony Liberatore has been confirmed as guest speaker for this important day, more information on tickets available soon. Another date to mark is the Sportsman’s Night on Wednesday the 28th June at the Clubrooms, this promises to be a great night featuring comedian Des Dowling as MC alongside Brendan Fevola, Dougie Hawkins (Bulldogs and AFL legend), Joe Daniher (Essendon), Debbie Lee (Womens Football Operation Manager) and our very own Josh Begley.Club Life Member and Premiership player Jason Zinnow has been putting a lot of effort into getting the Vets on the park again this season and now he is also arranging a Trivia Night to be held on the 8th July; more details soon. Don’t forget that Club Memberships are available for only $60 which gets you into all home games and includes the EFL Record; be a member not just a supporter; contact Andy Lee for more info on 0419 539 863. Please note that the annual Ladies Night has been postponed until later in the season. The Vets could only muster 16 players last week so played a 16 a side game against Wantirna South who only had 17 players themselves and started off slowly again being unable to kick a goal in the first half. Craig and Andy both kicked goals in the third quarter while Jimmy Weir added another in the last. It was good to see Troy Morris front up for a game improving as the day went on and the usual suspects were again in the best players. Jason would like to see more players available for our next game as training continues on Tuesday nights at Tommy’s and Thursday nights at the Netball Courts; contact Jason Zinnow for more info on 0411 079 829
