Building Better Bloods

Senior player, Rebekka Mcmahon joined Andrew Marks today in delivering the football clinics along with modules from the program.   Andrew addressed classes from various year levels as part of the launch delivering components of the Sports Psychology and Social Media modules.

The West Adelaide Football Club has always tried to follow a holistic approach towards the football programs offered at the club. This is highlighted best by the number of players that have been developed through programs to go on and play League Football and/ or be drafted into the AFL system.

The SANFL has divided South Australia into 8 promotional zones. This ensures that each SANFL club has an even share of the available players in the State. It also means that each SANFL club is given sole responsibility for assisting local clubs and schools to promote Australian Rules football.

With these two points in mind the West Adelaide Football Club have developed a Curriculum that is offered to schools and clubs within their SANFL promotional zone.

"If we develop Good Men, then we will Develop Good Footballers.”  Andrew added "With the increase of participation of Female Football we are also developing a similar program for females to participate in football."

West Adelaide visit their country zone areas at least once a year during the bye weeks and offer the program to Clubs and Schools in their promotional zone.

The curriculum has been written by the Football manager Andrew Marks in conjunction with ex AFL and current player Jason Porplyzia.

Andrew has taught in schools for 21 years before taking on the role at West Adelaide. He has a Diploma of teaching, Bachelor of Education, Grad. Cert in Education, Diploma of Management and has recently completed a Sports Psychology course.

Jason has played over 10 years of AFL with the Adelaide Crows and is currently studying a Sports Science degree.
