In what was always going to be a closely contested match the Beach travelled to Mt Barker to take on the Roos.
This game wasn't to dissapoint with the Beach hitting the scoreboard first with a major from Browne. Unfortunetely this was the only major for the half and with the Roos kicking 2 goals in the second quarter it meant the Roos went into half time up and about with an 8point lead.
It was now that O'Brien put it to her players. She demanded players stand up, keep structures and to take chances. She needed her defenders to be confident so the links to the mids could be made and she made a few changes to help make it happen. It was then up to the players.
Browne took on board the advice and made herself available as a link out of the 50 instead of pushing so deep into defence to help out. Jenkins with fresh legs was a pivitol switch to mids and proved a good link between Browne and the forwards. The game then started to open up and the defenders played smarter football. A soccer goal from small forward Henwood regained the lead for the Beach and another to Power gave them an 8 point lead going into the final change.
The fourth quarter saw both teams defence work exceptionally hard before Browne played on and kicked the sealer with a few minutes to go. The ball went back to the middle and the Beach mids won the ball out of the centre which created a quick opportunity and Power pounced making that 2 for the day for her and the game for the Roos out of reach.
Final Score: Beach 5.6 36 defeated Roos 2.4 16
Best for Beach: Browne, Fewings, Jones, Koster, Ross, Taylor
